First introduced in 1991 by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Ryan Brown, C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa became a ’90s hit with a toy line, a hit Saturday morning cartoon on ABC, comic books, and an arcade game. Now, over three decades later, the legendary law cows are back with new toys, a new comic, and—most exciting of all— the third new animated series from The Nacelle Company, currently in development and set to premiere in 2027. This upcoming series shares a connected universe and timeline with two other Nacelle animated reboots: RoboForce, executive produced by Brian Volk-Weiss, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Seven Bucks Productions; and Biker Mice from Mars, executive produced by Volk-Weiss, Ryan Reynolds, and Maximum Effort. Golden, who has history adapting for feature film having done so alongside Mike Mignola for Hellboy: The Crooked Man, will adapt The House of Last Resort for the film. In addition to Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo will produce for Outlier Society, alongside Golden and Pete Donaldson of Donaldson Media.

Christopher is a Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-winner writer of such novels as The House of Last Resort, Road of Bones (which was also recently optioned), Ararat, All Hallows and more. His most recently novel The Night Birds hits bookstores everywhere on May 6, 2025 from St. Martin’s Press.

In addition to his novel work, Golden has written a number of comics like Mortal Terror, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, Frankenstein: New World, Sons of Anarchy, The Punisher, The Crow, and more. With Mignola, he is the co-creator of the Outerverse comic book universe, including such series as Baltimore, Joe Golem: Occult Detective, and Lady Baltimore.

Golden has also received attention for his work in the audio drama medium with Hellboy and co-writing and co-directing Slayers: A Buffyverse Story with Amber Benson.

About The House of Last Resort

Across Italy, there are many half-empty towns, nearly abandoned by those who migrate to the coast or to cities. The beautiful, crumbling hilltop town of Becchina is among them, but its mayor has taken drastic measures to rebuild—selling abandoned homes to anyone in the world for a single Euro, as long as the buyer promises to live there for at least five years. “I’ve been a fan of Dave [Chisholm]’s art for a very long time,” said Conrad. “It’s been a delight to bring him into this corrupted place, and watch him dwell in the darkness. Chisholm, who won a 2024 Ringo Award for his graphic novel Miles Davis and the Search for Sound, is well-known for the vibrant, synesthetic elements in his music-focused comics, but that rich environmental aura takes on a sinister new feel in his depiction of the hauntings of Plague House.

“With Plague House, Michael flips the haunted house trope on its head in a really clever, chilling way that immediately got me hyped to tackle the visuals for this book,” said Chisholm. “I’m drawing, coloring, and lettering this thing, and that allows me to dig into some of those comic-centric structural or formal ideas that show up in the music-based work that has become my calling card. Music and horror…they’re really similar, right? Just like in music, properly telling a horrific story is all about timing!”

The weirdest thing is, though – you know, putting these pages together takes a lot of time. It can really isolate a person, and your mind can wander and drift, sort of putting you into a meditative state. And then, when I come out of that state, I’ve noticed things around my studio have moved, have been misplaced, or strange objects just show up on a bookshelf or a desk. I’m starting to think that there’s more to Michael’s script than meets the eye…”
