As new comic day quickly approaches it can be sometimes difficult to decide which of the new comics hitting the shelves at your local comic shop to grab. Do not worry, we are here to help. This week we preview four titles that standout from the crowd including Only the Savage are Left #1, The Deadman #1, and more!

While we are not the official voice of your decision, we want to help guide you in the right direction for comics releasing June 3, 2026.

Only the Savage are Left #1

Writer: Zack Kaplan
Artist: Stefano Raffaele
Publisher: Dark Horse

A strange virus has spread across the world, transforming its victims into monsters. The only cure is to kill another infected soul. When a nonviolent young man sets out from the safety of his settlement to find his missing true love, he must face the corrupted world of monsters and monster-killers. A dramatic survival adventure that dares to ask what we should stand for in the monster apocalypse.

Only the Savage are Left delivered everything I wanted from this post-apocalyptic horror story with terrifying monsters and emotional states, all while giving us a fresh perspective on survival in a broken world. Zack Kaplan and Stefano Raffaele assemble a story that is brutal, deeply human and balances shocking horror with heartfelt emotion that never lets up. Only the Savage are Left is a bold and terrifying reinvention of the zombie apocalypse story. – CLICK HERE to read the entire review

The Deadman #1

Writer: W. Maxwell Prince
Artist: Martín Morazzo
Publisher: DC Comics

The Deadman enters the Next Level!

In the millisecond following his murder, the soul of shifty circus aerialist Boston Brand was commandeered by the goddess Rama Kushna, who deputized the erstwhile performer’s ghost with a sacred spectral assignment: the Custodian of All Souls! Now Brand floats — begrudgingly — through this bluegreen purgatory we call Earth, upholding the Laws of Spiritual Math and protecting humanity from evil — even if they can’t see or hear him.

Open up to this new era of DC’s most lively deceased superhero — the Deadman — in a story about life, death, and everything in between… replete with paranormal activity, possessions, and a profusion of other poignant peculiarities.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1

Writer: Marguerite Bennett
Artist: Andrew Griffith
Publisher: BOOM! Studios

A new uniform for a new era! The future is now with this visionary relaunch of the globally acclaimed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.

It’s been ten years since the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers turned in their morphers and went their separate ways. But now they’ve been called back to the legendary Command Center to face a new, terrifying form of a familiar foe: Rita Rabiosa.

They may not be teenagers with attitudes anymore, but are they still the same heroes they once were?

DC vs. Vampires: World War Z TP

Writer: Matthew Rosenberg
Artist: Otto Schmidt
Publisher: DC Comics

DC vs. Vampires was just the beginning! The sequel has arrived, and the team of writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Otto Schmidt return as a new Ice Age dawns.

It’s the dead of winter, and any hope for a fragile truce between the Green Arrow-led human heroes and vampire queen Barbara Gordon’s army has been dashed by Damian Wayne and his guerrilla fighters. He’s the only one fighting back against the bloodthirsty hordes, leaving Green Arrow with a choice: Does he stand and fight, or sacrifice the boy in the name of peace?

Nearly 30 years after the cult classic Event Horizon hit theaters, Eisner-winning writer Christian Ward and artist Tristan Jones return to its haunted universe. Event Horizon: Dark Descent explores what happened to the original crew, prior to the events of the feature film. This new chapter in Event Horizon is a must-read for those fans of the 1997 sci-fi horror.

The Event Horizon was a revolutionary spaceship designed for one mission: faster-than-light travel with a top-secret, experimental gravity drive. But upon activating the device, the ship journeyed across the borders of Hell itself. In a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining, Captain Kilpack and the crew of the Event Horizon must resist all manner of demonic forces—including Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, and their own descents into madness and bloodlust—if they’ve any chance of escaping back to their own world.

Event Horizon: Dark Descent echoes the tone of the original film while also bringing a fresh perspective to the story of the ship and its doomed crew. Unlike the film, which kept us guessing for much of its runtime, Christian Ward wastes no time as he plunges us straight into the madness. Since we all know what premise, there is no need for the mystery. Instead, the story leans into the chaos early and expands the backstory in new ways. It’s a faster, more direct descent compared to the film’s slow-burn approach.

What I loved about the original film was its crew, a group of misfit scientists, soldiers, and technicians. Dark Descent captures that same feeling with a new and unique cast. Ward introduces each character with their own roles and personal flaws, perfect for the demonic entity Paimon’s influence. The character development is on point and sets up the crew in an interesting way, all while we wait for their eventual demise.

Tristan Jones’ artwork is graphic and deeply unsettling in such an amazing way. Jones mixes visceral horror, nudity, and violence which brings in facets of the original film, all while adding a touch of new perspective. The visuals are enhanced by the colors of Pip Martin and fantastic lettering by Alex Ray, pushing the intensity of every page even further.

While familiarity with the 1997 feature will add to your overall experience, this series stands on its own as a dark, mature, and stunningly crafted cosmic horror tale, well worth the nearly 30-year wait.

Event Horizon: Dark Descent is a great return to the universe, nailing the disturbing feeling and psychological horror that made the original film become a cult classic. Writer Christian Ward and artist Tristan Jones craft a brutal, unsettling and character-driven story that not only expands on the mythology of the original film, but also carves its own path. Event Horizon: Dark Descent is a wonderful return to cosmic horror that honors the film’s legacy while being a nightmare all its own. Plus, all the more reason to rewatch the classic film over again.

The collected edition of Event Horizon: Dark Descent hits local comic shops and bookstores everywhere on July 28, 2026 (FOC: June 22) from IDW Publishing.

There are certain characters that have attempted crossovers with so many different universes, but there are only a select few that seem to work each and every time. Godzilla is one of those characters, this time in Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla, The King of the Monsters meets Fastest Thing Alive in a crossover event that shouldn’t work but ultimately does.

When the King of the Monsters and other iconic kaiju mysteriously arrive in the Blue Blur’s world, the brilliant and evil Dr. Eggman will try to harness the power of the kaiju for his own nefarious goals. Only Sonic and his amazing allies–including Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow–will be able to stand in the villain’s way and try to send the giant monsters back to their own world.

Writer Nick Marino crafts a story which has a real Saturday morning cartoon vibe, while also the fear that comes along with an appearance of Godzilla or really any of the kaiju associated with The King of the Monsters. Sonic and his pals find out quickly that their biggest fight isn’t against Dr. Eggman but also a giant villain from another universe. Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla is campy in a way that really fits the Sonic the Hedgehog style, while also giving us a glimpse of the horror of Godzilla.

It’s fitting to see there different in reactions between Sonic and Dr. Eggman with this sudden appearance of giant monsters in their world. Sonic and his friends attempt to find a way to curb destruction while Eggman looks for a new pal, wanting to harness this power. Not to mention, multiple kaiju have suddenly appeared, making for a giant battle we have come to see in Godzilla stories, tossing Sonic for a loop (pun intended).

While I am eagerly awaiting comics such as The Horror of Godzilla, sometimes you need a campy, Saturday Morning cartoon style, and fun story featuring two unlikely iconic characters on the same page. Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla is just that story.

Like the story, Jack Lawrence‘s artwork is fitting for a Sonic the Hedgehog story. The style brought warmth to my soul, while also capturing the size and magnitude of these giant kaiju. I imagine bringing Sonic, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman into a story against Godzilla isn’t an easy ask for an illustrator but Lawrence got the assignment.

Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla is that crossover that sounds odd on paper, yet someone capture the best of both franchises in a one wild package. Writer Nick Marino and artist Jack Lawrence deliver a fun, campy adventure while still giving Godzilla and the kaiju roster that presence we expect. Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla is a fun crossover that proves the Blue Blur and the King of the Monsters are a great match.

Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla #1 hits local comic shops on July 15, 2026 (FOC: June 8) from IDW Publishing.

Crownsville is a haunting and poignant blend of historical fiction with supernatural horror. Rodney Barnes and Elia Bonetti craft a tale that’s a chilling, terrifying, and thought-provoking exploration of trauma, injustice, and the ghosts that refuse to stay buried.

Founded at the turn of the 20th century outside of Annapolis, Maryland, the Crownsville Hospital was a notoriously segregated, all-Black psychiatric institute. After decades of overcrowding and neglect— alongside darker, more persistent rumors of patient abuse and illegal medical experiments—it was finally closed.

Today, it stands condemned—a crumbling testament to a legacy of all-too-real terror inflicted on a marginalized and vulnerable community. But even as a ruin of its former self, Crownsville still casts a long shadow… When an unexplained death inside the abandoned hospital is ruled a suicide, Annapolis police detective Mike Simms and journalist Paul Blairare are compelled to dig deeper, only to discover the reality of the horrors that once took place there… and the powerful connection they share to the anguished spirits of the dead that are still locked within its walls.

Crownsville is rooted in historical atrocity and wrapped in a supernatural horror. I expected a lot heading into this series with Barnes at the helm and was not wrong. Barnes uses creepy horror to leverage the forgotten legacy of the real-life segregated psychiatric institution outside Annapolis, Maryland.

While the series is filled with interesting characters, it’s Crownsville the building which is the most impactful of them all. Crownsville is more than just a backdrop but almost a living and breathing entity, adding even more of an unsettling vibe. The decaying hospital becomes a symbol and the ghosts are both literal and metaphorical.

The intentional use of real-life horrors within a fictional story makes for such an impactful read. When you blur the lines between the real-life institutional abuse of Black mental-health patients and the fictional world you get a truly terrifying tale. A thought-provoking and impactful story, while also entertaining.

Barnes really grabs my attention with the story at hand, but it’s Bonetti’s art which is the standout here. The visuals give a sense of decay, emptiness, and unease which fits the tale so well. The sketchy and gritty art style adds a sense of horror to the pages that goes beyond just the word bubbles and immerses us within the story. With such dense tone, Bonetti’s art conveys what is felt more than what is said.

Crownsville is one of those horror series that stays with you. Writer Rodney Barnes and artist Elia Bonetti take real-life history and blend it with supernatural horror so if feels creepy, unsettling, and leaves a lasting impact. Crownsville is a chilling and thought-provoking horror that proves that sometimes the scariest things are rooted in reality.

The collected edition of Crownsville hits your local comic shop and bookstores everywhere on August 11, 2026 from Oni Press.

Superman is one of the few names that transcends comics. The story of an alien fleeing his dying planet to then crash land in Smallville and join the Kent family is one as old as time. But what if it went a different way. In Superman: Father of Tomorrow, Kenny Porter and artist Danny Earls, craft a story that twists the age-old Superman tale slightly, leading to an alternate story that answer the question of what if a different family member crash landed on Earth?

In a corner of far-flung space, a world explodes. A lone rocket escapes the destruction and races through space, ultimately landing on a small farm in small-town Kansas. A kindly couple steps with trepidation toward the alien craft as the door opens. Out steps a man named Jor-El, the sole survivor of the planet Krypton! As Jor-El fits in to his new home, he realizes that he can help the world, not just with his newfound powers but with his intellect as well. Witness how a Man of Steel and Science saves the world!

As someone who knows the basics of the lore of Superman, having read a few comics and watched a few television and movies featuring the hero, it was nice to see another take on the story. Porter tells the tale of Kal-El’s father, Jor-El, escaping their home planet to eventually land on Earth instead of how it was originally written. This Elseworld’s story gives us a glimpse of a world where a full-grown adult joins the Kent family and the repercussions of this over time.

The Earthly events are similar, it’s how Jor-El reacts and handles such events that will change the future for humans. Kal-El crash-landing as a child allowed him to grow as a superhuman, but within the world of humans that he was able to fit in smoothly. An adult trying to blend into society as well as try to help can cause issues that maybe Clark had to deal with as much.

What made Superman: Father of Tomorrow click for me the most was how it honestly scared me. The unknown of how Jor-El will deal with certain impactful situations frightens me for those who will deal with the fallout of these decisions. The foundation set by Porter for putting Jor-El into the position he is in was wonderful, it’s how this series moves forward that scares me. Not because I am afraid of how well it will be told, but I feel for those surrounding Jor-El’s determination to help.

Elseworlds has been around for many years and has been used to tell other versions of the stories from the DC Universe. While the Absolute Universe tells drastically new stories based around classic characters, this story is more of a slight change that leads to drastically different repercussions. It’s a great way to enjoy classic characters in a different light.

Earls’ artwork has a gritty and more grungy feel to it that just leaned into the slight unease feeling I was getting from the story. This made the reading experience all the more entertaining. It’s big-two artwork, but with a real edgy independent feel that made its way more into my wheelhouse for sure.

Superman: Father of Tomorrow takes the familiar story of Superman and tweaks it into something a bit unsettling and really compelling. Kenny Porter and Danny Earls mange to keep some of the heart that makes Superman special while also exploring how different the world may be with Jor-El on Earth instead of Kal-El. Superman: Father of Tomorrow features strong world building, uneasy tension, and great artwork that matches the tone, making for a great Elseworlds story.

Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1 hit local comic shops on May 27, 2026 from DC Comics.

When diving into a Chuck Tingle novel you can expect the unexpected. This goes for Fabulous Bodies. I was looking forward to a fun and weird story when it came to this novel, but was utterly surprised with how emotionally connected I felt with the tale. Fabulous Bodies is the weird blend of influencer, grave robber, and rockstar chaos you have been looking for. Let’s be honest you weren’t, but now are.

Poppy Stringer was born to be a star. An aspiring fashion influencer by day, Poppy moonlights as a grave robber to make ends meet, wheeling and dealing dead bodies across Palm Springs.

When her hero, the flamboyant, piano-slamming rockstar Eddie Michaels, unexpectedly dies, Poppy gets a call to retrieve his body from the medical examiner’s office for a lucrative sum. It could be the last job she’ll ever need―if everything goes to plan. But the night’s delivery quickly veers off course when Eddie wakes up.

Now Poppy must fight for her life if she hopes to survive this blood-soaked joyride of carnage and extravagant entertainment.

As I said to kick things off here, expect the unexpected, that is what I have come to find with Tingle. This goes for the story itself, the method of storytelling, or really anything. What I expected with this story was grave robbing and the associated risks with this endeavor. While that is the case, it was not exactly what I had pictured in my mind. Yes, I knew Eddie would wake up, as described, I just figured there would be more to it. This is not a dig (pun-intended), but a change of what I had gone in expecting.

While it starts off a bit slow, setting the foundation for the rest of the story, Fabulous Bodies does come at you quick with neck breaking pacing. There is no rest for the wicked. When shit hit the fan, there is no stopping the fast paced, campy horror, and even humor that takes place. The speed of the book doesn’t take away from the overall story, but adds to the experience. Even in the emotional moments, the again surprised me, things felt like the peddle was to the floor. Making for an easy, and fun read.

Poppy is setup as a fantastic character from the start, someone who is extremely public facing as an influencer but also leads the double-life as some making some quick cash in the trade of the dead. I couldn’t help but think of stories such as Dexter whereas it should be obvious to those around you that something is off about you, but no one is the wiser. Makes for a funny, campy, and sometimes intense story. And when Poppy ends up on an intense, horrifying adventure with Eddie we are introduced to another well crafted character and a terrifying but amazing connection between the two.

Fabulous Bodies is filled with a great amount of dark humor paired with just the right amount of body horror and action. It can be intense at moments, but the campiness helps balance this out. How Tingle is able to accomplish all of this in a zombie-style journey is beyond me, but it works.

Fabulous Bodies is somehow disgusting, hilarious, and genuinely sweet at the same time. It’s impossible not to have fun reading this. Chuck Tingle understands that camp and sincerity actually work really well together. The book is ridiculous in the best possible way.

Let’s be honest, Fabulous Bodies shouldn’t work on paper, but somehow Chuck Tingle turns this influence satire, body horror, zombie-fueled chaos into something that is truly wildly entertaining, all while also being surprisingly heartfelt. Fabulous Bodies is disgusting and funny, making for a blood-soaked fever dream that proves Tingle is one of horror’s most original voices.

Fabulous Bodies hits bookstores everywhere on July 7, 2026 from Tor Nightfire. The audiobook, narrated by Mara Wilson, is available via Libro.fm!

When it comes to post-apocalyptic stories, I am game for most of them. When writer Zack Kaplan is at the helm, I am even more ready for it. And when it takes the sub-genre and gives it a new twist, sign me the hell up. Only the Savage are Left is a horrifying monster story where Kaplan crafts a terrifying new take on the zombie-style horror story all while examining what happens when humanity decide that the monsters and monstrosities as acceptable.

The post-apocalyptic monster or zombie story is not a new concept, but what Kaplan creates in Only the Savage are Left offers a unique take on the sub-genre, one where I was utterly surprised when reading the first issue. It’s heartfelt and emotional tale, where violence intersects survival but in a way that I never saw coming. It can be hard to standout in this crowded space, but with Only the Savage are Left Kaplan succeeds.

When some approached these type of stories, those who are not usually fans of them that is, they tend to give up before they start due to the inclusion of zombies or monsters. But what makes this story so special is how it falls into the category of monster story that is more about those who survive then the atrocities that lay in front of to them. The emotional connection to this story leads the way using the zombie-esque monsters as a way to move this tale forward, at least from what we can tell in the premiere issue.

Kaplan tends to pair up with some outstanding comic creators when crafting a new series. This time is no different. Stefano Raffaele illustrates a stunning debut issue with outstanding monster designs and unsettling horrors, while Thiago Rocha colors the world after the fall beautifully. It’s the type of terrifying artwork I would expect in this type of story and fits so well with the script Kaplan lays out. The artwork works in the tender moments, while also when shit hits the fan, making for a full rounded visual feast.

The first issue is packed and lays an excellent foundation for what’s to come in Only the Savage are Left. Kaplan is continuing his run of excellent comic series that entertain while also make you examine the world around you.

Only the Savage are Left #1 hits local comic shops on June 3, 2026 from Dark Horse.

The Divergent series by Veronica Roth is one of those young adult dystopian franchises that has been nearly impossible for someone to ignore, given the series’ popularity over the years. So I felt giving them a read was doing myself a favor. Across the four books, Roth crafts a series filled with action, emotional conflict, identity struggles, loyalty, and sacrifice. It’s not a perfect series, but one that was worth the journey and I am all the better for reading in the end.

This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.

Divergent

I first read Divergent by Veronica Roth a few years back having seen the films, I felt I should dive into the stories they were inspired by. The first book was definitely entertaining and had me hooked from the outset. It’s definitely a story that was not geared towards a 40-year-old dude, but definitely can see why the intended age-range would love reading this book and by the end had me wanting more from the world crafted by Roth.

One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior’s society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions.

Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she’s determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

I can definitely see how some people were saying Divergent was the start of the next Hunger Games, but really only because of the initiation Tris goes through when choosing her faction. It has the competition and while Hunger Games led to death, Divergent really just would lead towards living a life faction-less. The stakes are way higher in Suzanne Collins‘ story, at least at this point.

Tris has to make some pretty grownup decisions at the age of 16, some decisions making at age 40 would be difficult enough, but having a teenager make decisions such as leaving your family behind or to keep serious secrets hidden. This alone made for an excellent story, but what takes place within this first book of the series was exciting and emotional at the same time. Divergent as all the things that make this type of book popular and is fairly well.

Divergent is a fun read, but definitely geared towards a young adult audience. Although, any adult can enjoy this dystopian tale filled with heart, action, and a budding love interest. I understand why it has been so popular and why a feature film was made from the story, but I am hoping for just a bit more from the rest of the series.

Divergent is available at bookstores everywhere from HarperCollins. The audiobook, narrated by Emma Galvin, is available via Libro.fm!

Insurgent

With the followup book in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, Insurgent is a much more in depth story of fighting back and fighting for what you believe is right.

As war surges in the factions of dystopian Chicago all around her, Tris attempts to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Now, after finishing the second book in this series, I can see why people compare the Divergent books to the work of Suzanne Collins‘ Hunger Games series. There is the sense of facing off against those in power, those hiding the truth from the people. While the factions are still mostly intact, it’s the factionless and those who have abandoned or separated from their faction who want to do what they believe is right.

This book has a slightly different vibe than Divergent, while also still staying true to itself. While it does feel like a book than belongs in this series, it really gives off the feeling that Divergent was only a setup for this story. Like the first book in the series is almost a prequel to the main part of this tale. I know I might be the only one who feels this way, it’s just a vibe I was getting while reading the second book in the series.

Insurgent takes the foundation that made Divergent interesting and pushes it into something that is darker and far more emotional. Veronica Roth delivers on expanding the world in a way that makes the conflicts feel larger, plus the stakes are more personal. All this while also keeping the heart of the story centered around Tris. This book feels a little less of a sequel and more of what this series was preparing for all along. Let’s see how the next installment lands.

Insurgent is available at bookstores everywhere from HarperCollins. The audiobook, narrated by Emma Galvin, is available via Libro.fm!

Allegiant

I would be lying if I didn’t say that I am continuing to read these books by Veronica Roth to complete the series as a completionist. Allegiant has veered enough from Divergent that made it a bit different from what I had hoped for, yet I didn’t hate the book either.

One choice will define you. What if your whole world was a lie? What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything? What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

Told from a riveting dual perspective, this third installment in the series follows Tris and Tobias as they battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and their selves—while facing impossible choices of courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Allegiant succeeds at answering a few questions that have been nagging at me throughout the first two books, such as the world outside the factions, even if these reveals felt a bit overcomplicated compared to the simplicity of the initial book. While the pacing drags at times and the dual point-of-views between Tris and Tobias kind of blended together instead of feeling distinct.

While this is technically not the FINAL book in the series, as the prequel collection of short stories based around Four is next, it is the final book in the linear story. With this the ending felt a bit rushed by Roth leaving me wanting a little more emotionally. It wasn’t the fact the story went a bit darker in direction, it was just I wasn’t fully invested by this point.

Allegiant may not have recaptured the spark I felt during Divergent which made me want to continue with the series, but it still has enough to give some answers that have been festering. Allegiant is a bold and emotionally heavy conclusion to the series but didn’t stick the landing I had hoped for when it was all said and done.

Allegiant is available at bookstores everywhere from HarperCollins. The audiobook, narrated by Emma Galvin & Aaron Stanford, is available via Libro.fm!

Four

The focus of the three Divergent books is on Tris’ story, from her aptitude test on, but what the Four short story collection by Veronica Roth gives us is the story behind Tobias and his evolution. It’s nice to revisit this universe, but with a fresh perspective. Four is not just a prequel to the main Divergent series, but features stories from before as well as those that run parallel to what we all read.

We first encountered Tobias as “Four” in Divergent. His voice is an integral part of Allegiant. Now we find more of this charismatic character’s backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection.

When read together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias’s life. The first three pieces in this volume—”The Transfer,” “The Initiate,” and “The Son”—follow Tobias’s transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, his Dauntless initiation, and the first clues that a foul plan is brewing in the leadership of two factions. The fourth story, “The Traitor,” runs parallel with the events of Divergent, giving readers a glimpse into the decisions of loyalty—and love—that Tobias makes in the weeks after he meets Tris Prior.

Roth gives us a glimpse of the hurdles Tobias has to overcome to get to where he is when Divergent kicks off adds depth to not only his character but the overall plot of the series. Crafting each of these four stories (which is fitting) in a way that gives us different moments in Tobias’ journey and not just a prequel story full-length novel allowed for us to give a bit deeper into key moments.

I enjoyed getting to see more of what it took for Tobias to switch factions early on, seeing where his nickname originated from, but also how he was being trained as a leader in Dauntless. Not to mention to see his struggles when first meeting Tris and what it was like from his side of things getting to know her.

The Four collection also introduces us to some characters we got to know in the main series, but earlier on and of course features a touch of Tris towards the end. This gave the collection even more connective tissue with the main series, allowing those who wanted more from the Divergent series.

This book is definitely for those who were fans of the entire series, as it gives more context, background, and insight into characters we followed when reading the series. While some of the stories are before Divergent, it was nice to read them all after finishing the first three books as a little look back at the series.

Veronica Roth expands the world and characters in such a meaningful way, giving us a deeper understanding of Tobias’ struggles, leadership, and budding relationship with Tris, all while revisiting familiar events from a new perspective. What seems like a bonus book became one of the better books of the series as a whole.

Doctor Victor Von Doom is a great scientist, an unparalleled sorcerer, and the ruler of his own nation. He is, by any measure, a great man. And yet Doom wants more. And when Reed Richards — Mister Fantastic, his greatest enemy and eternal rival — is showcased at a prestigious international event to which Doom wasn’t even invited, Doom is outraged.

Reed shares his plan for his eventual retirement project: the total optimization of history. He intends to go back in time, to all the eras humanity wasted on war and conflict, and fix them, saving trillions of lives and ensuring humanity can achieve its greatest and final glory. The idea of Reed rewriting history in his own image is, of course, antithetical to Doom, and so he decides to do it before Reed does. But when the Fantastic Four intervene, Doom finds himself in a battle he never intended — across all of time and space!

Writer: Rick Remender
Artist: Daniel Acuña
Publisher: Image Comics

SHOT DOWN. HUNTED. OUT OF TIME.

Set in a brutal, fully painted world of anthropomorphic animals — equal parts Inglourious Basterds and Watership Down — ESCAPE is a gritty, bullet-riddled journey through war’s scorched aftermath. It’s about the violence we inflict, the souls we try to save, and the courage it takes to crawl out of fire.

From the creative team of New York Times bestselling author Rick Remender (Deadly Class, Uncanny X-Force) and powerhouse Daniel Acuña (Captain America, Black Panther) — the duo behind Marvel’s Uncanny Avengers — comes a savage, full-throttle wartime thriller where survival isn’t given… it’s taken.

Milton Shaw is a battle-hardened bomber pilot, flying missions over a war-torn world ruled by a ruthless empire. But when his plane is shot out of the sky, Milton wakes up behind enemy lines — in the smoldering ruins of a city he helped burn. And in less than 24 hours, his own side is dropping the big one to finish the job.

Now, injured, unarmed, and being hunted through enemy streets, Milton’s only shot at escape comes from the unlikeliest place: a grieving father and his son — civilians shattered by the same fascist regime that rules this land with an iron claw. Enemies by blood. Allies by circumstance. Together, they’ll have to fight their way out before the bomb drops and erases everything… and everyone.
