I am a sucker for anything horror related and these DC Horror Presents… titles are no different. The debut issue of the latest horror anthology from DC Comics is just what the doctor order this spooky season and I cannot wait for more!
Bones crunching, worms munching, blood spattering… these are a few of our favorite things! From some of the most dark and cunning minds in horror comes DC Horror Presents… a new collection of gruesome tales set in the DCU. With stories penned by some of our favorite names in horror, this anthology will have die-hard horror fans quaking with fear!
The first story is a chilling tale crafted by the dynamic writing duo of David Dastmalchian and Leah Kilpatrick, two names that have become synonymous in creating haunting tales for the comic industry. Their terrifying tale sets the stage for what we can expect from the DC Horror Presents… series. While the narrative doesn’t five too deeply into the characters themselves, it’s precisely its brevity that packs a punch. The duo manages to create an unsettling story that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page. It’s a twisted and shocking short story.
What complements the writing duo of the Love You to Pieces story is the artwork from Cat Staggs and colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr. Together they bring to life—or perhaps death—to each panel with ease. The creative team truly pulls us into a twisted story just in time for Halloween.
The second story in DC Horror Presents… is a horrifying tale featuring Wonder Woman set in Themyscira—which is a perfect setting for this horror story. The Boulet Brothers alongside artist Butch Mapa and colorist Kristian Rossi craft a deeper story than the first tale in this debut issue which showcases how versatile Wonder Woman can be when immersed in horror; her bravery tested amidst nightmarish scenarios adds layers we’ve seldom seen explored within traditional superhero confines.
These DC Horror Presents… short stories are an amazing addition to DC Comics. Superhero story with a backdrop of nightmarish horrors is a combination, when done right, is something I truly can sink my teeth into. With creators on board to know how to tell a horrific story, these stories can be some amazing tales as the series moves along.
