The Pedestrian is a super out-of-the-ordinary comic book in a such an amazing way. While flipping through the pages of the Magma Comix book we found ourselves transported to a world that was both familiar yet strange. The writing by Joey Esposito is sharp and engaging, he knows how to draw a reader in with clever dialogue and some unique storytelling.
The artwork from Sean Von Gorman pairs well with the Esposito’s writing. He brings to life a local town with great illustrations that are a work of art in their own right. As we finish the premiere issue we could tell this relationship between creators goes beyond this pages of the book and is a true friendship. We can see the cohesiveness of writing and drawing to create an immersive reading experience.
At the heart of this superhero story is the sign of a glimmer hope for a town in a rut. With the appearance of The Pedestrian, things seem to be taking a step in the right direction but quietly and with no real idea of why. Our hero is here to help and not in the typical way you would see a big action superhero story from the big two. He has his own way for making things better and it’s not the norm.
While you can just read through this premiere issue once, we highly recommend taking your time and reading it again. The love, care and effort put into this first issue is simply wonderful. Esposito and Von Gorman have crafted a layered story that rewards us even more with repeat readings.
The Pedestrian is a great new and fresh take on the superhero genre from a new publisher looking to make great comics. Joey Esposito (Batman: Urban Legends) and Sean Von Gorman have truly created a unique comic with engaging storytelling and beautiful artwork. Run, don’t walk to grab a copy from your local comic shop when released this August.
