After a long journey, the reboot of the cult-classic horror comedy is finally making it to the big screen. Toxie returns in The Toxic Avenger on August 27, 2025 for his fifth feature film.
When a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, he’s transformed into a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger. Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community. In a world where greed runs rampant… justice is best served radioactive.
The superhero black comedy splatter film was written and directed by Macon Blair based on the character first introduced by Lloyd Kaufman in 1984. The film stars Peter Dinklage as the title character, alongside Jacob Tremblay as Wade Gooze, Taylour Paige as J.J. Doherty, Julia Davis as Kissy Sturnevan, Jonny Coyne as Thad Barkabus, Elijah Wood as Fritz Garbinger, and Kevin Bacon as Bob Garbinger.
While The Toxic Avenger‘s principal photography began on June 21, 2021 in Bulgaria and wrapped on August 14, 2021, the film premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas on September 21, 2023 before getting a wider release by by Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing on August 29, 2025.
