The Halloween season may be over, but if you are a horror movie fan and haven’t seen Damien Leone‘s Terrifier and recent sequel Terrifier 2, make it a priority.
Personally, I was not into horror films at all until recently. My horror fix was located in the comic books medium in the likes of Nailbiter, The Walking Dead, and Something Is Killing The Children. This October, I made it a point to start watching the horror classic such as Halloween, Friday The 13th, Scream, and more. I added to the list the two Terrifier films.
First, I wanted to watch the newest film due to its unlikely success in the box office, but knew I needed to start with the first film and move forward. Additionally, watching the films was on my list because Leone and Art the Clown himself, David Howard Thornton will appear in my home state of Maine at the Maine Comic and Toy Con, plus the Bangor Comic and Toy Con in 2023.
I was pleasantly surprised with both films and now excited for a third installment. Terrifier 2 was one of the few sequels that out-shines the debut film. In lower-budget horror films, sometimes the sequel can be more successful and better made then the original simply due to budgets and casting.
Terrifier 2 has such amazing cinematography, special effects, acting, and story. Although the gore, blood, and guts can be outlandish to some people, the creative teams ability to make a well-made film with such gore is really something that should win awards.
Being new to the horror genre, splatter horror is not the place to start, but these films are a good place to get your blood and guts fix if this is your fandom. Leone has no limit to what he will put into one of his films and with that being the case we can only imagine what the threequel has in store for us all.
The violent and gory sequences allegedly led to emergency services having to be called from viewers fainting and vomiting in the theaters. Personally, this is not the general consensus and even though the film is over the top gruesome, fainting and vomiting is likely in the rare minority.
Terrifier 2 was shot for $250, 000 after raising over 430% of its goal on the Indiegogo campaign. As writing this article, the film has brought in over $7.9 million in the box office and continues to grow. The film, which was only supposed to get a one-weekend limited release, is distributed by Bloody Disgusting.
Recently Leone has stated the third part of the series might end up split into two different films as he does not want to make another film over 2 hours long as the sequel was 2 hours 18 minutes. In the horror genre, most great films are between 1 hour 30 minutes and 1 hour 50 minutes on average. Additionally, gives Leone more time with Art the Clown on screen.
The Terrifier films are now likely to go down in the history books of must-watch horror films and I won’t complain.
