As new comic day quickly approaches it can be sometimes difficult to decide which of the new comics hitting the shelves at your local comic shop to grab. Do not worry, we are here to help. This week we preview four titles that standout from the crowd including Ripcord #1, Wild Animals TP, and more!

While we are not the official voice of your decision, we want to help guide you in the right direction for comics releasing January 21, 2026.

Ripcord #1

Ripcord

Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Aneke
Publisher: Ignition Press

The drug known as “Ripcord” has become the scourge of the world. It’s extremely addictive, and it doesn’t just alter your perception, it fundamentally alters who you are. Ripcord users have their whole bodies taken over by the substance, and it transforms them into mindless, frenzied killers who want nothing but to destroy. This makes every place the drug has grown popular dangerous.

Dillon is one of thousands who has lost a family member to Ripcord, but unlike so many others, she’s going to do something about it. Her sister has gone missing in the Outback, and Dillon is going to stop at nothing — and let nothing stop her — until she brings her home.

This latest foray into the darker depths of humanity from writer Cullen Bunn (A Legacy of Violence, Deluge) is brought to vivid life by artist Aneke (DC Comics Bombshells, Bylines in Blood) and colorist Patricia Martin (Dune: The Graphic Novel). Ripcord is an ultraviolent exploitation comic in the vein of movies like Mad Max and Near Dark. Each issue features a cover by Jorge Fornes, the artist of Rorschach and Danger Street.

Ripcord is gearing up to be another stunning comic from Cullen Bunn and with the artwork by Aneke, the premiere issue is one worth grabbing. This darkly human story is brutal and it’s just getting started. – CLICK HERE to read the entire review

Archie X The Army of Darkness #1

Archie X The Army of Darkness #1

Writer: Eric Burnham
Artist: Bill Galvan
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment

IT’S A TEENAGE NIGHTMARE! There’s a certain man — name’s Ash, you may have heard of him — who is doomed to battle against the forces of evil, over and over again, whether he likes it or not. No matter where he goes, the cycle of violence always repeats itself — until the day that he arrives in the picturesque town of Riverdale.

This supernaturally wholesome community seems to break the curse that has plagued Ash ever since he first encountered its otherworldly evil all those years ago. Or rather, the curse was broken — until an over-curious teenager named Archie finds a copy of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and reads a portion of it aloud, summoning the horrifying Deadites once again!

Now Ash and the good townsfolk of Riverdale must hold back the undead hordes long enough for Archie to undo what he’s unwittingly done. Otherwise, an Army of Darkness will roll over Riverdale and destroy everything and everyone in its path — and that’s just not going to happen on Ashley J. Williams’s watch!

Fresh-faced author Eric Burnham (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters) joins wide-eyed artist Bill Galvan (Archie, Guardians of the Galaxy) for a long night’s journey into mayhem with Archie X Army of Darkness #1!

Archie x Army of Darkness is one of those crossovers that is so odd that it makes so much sense at the same time. Erik Burnham and Bill Galvan create a story that works so well with both iconic franchises while making it their own. It is so much fun to see that Riverdale is basically at the center of a nexus of a ton of different iconic pop culture universes and I cannot wait to see where this series and where Dynamite Entertainment takes us next with Archie!

Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four #1

Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four #1

Writer: Josh Trujillo
Artist: Andrea Di Vito
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Marvel’s First Family find themselves stranded on the Planet of the Apes! Witness history as the Fantastic Four cross paths for the very first time with Cornelius, Zira, Ursus — and of course Dr. Zaius! But they won’t be going alone! Familiar foes from the Marvel Universe have set their sights on Ape City, setting the stage for a battle royale that fans won’t soon forget!

Wild Animals TP

Wild Animals

Writer: Ed Brisson
Artist: Andy Kuhn
Publisher: Mad Cave Studios

Neil’s life has been falling apart ever since his father was killed by crooked cops. Fifteen years later, Neil’s mother lays on her deathbed and he’s stuck in a dead-end job, has nowhere to live, and no hope to speak of. Life keeps kicking Neil and he keeps taking it, too frightened to fight back. Until now. With his world crumbling around him, Neil finds himself backed into a corner, with no choice but to make a stand and right the wrongs that have haunted him for years. Revenge is a dangerous path to walk and the deeper Neil goes, the more he realizes that violence is all consuming.

Wild Animals is a wild ride from two outstanding comic creators. Ed Brisson’s expertise in crafting crime stories that take your breath away combined with Andy Kuhn’s visceral, impactful art create a violent, chaotic, and vengeance-filled story with a jaw-dropping final chapter. – CLICK HERE to read the entire review
