Filmmaker Aaron B. Koontz joins the Capes and Tights Podcast for Episode 234 on July 23, 2025. To prepare for the conversation, we have compiled six movies and TV series by Koontz you should watch.
Koontz is a producer, writer and director. He is the founder and CEO of Paper Street Pictures, a film production company in Austin, Texas. Koontz is the writer, director and producer behind The Pale Door, the Scare Package franchise, and Camera Obscura. As a producer Koontz has also worked on Old Man, The Artifice Girl, and Shelby Oaks.
More recently Koontz is the showrunner, producer, writer and director, along with Luke Boyce, of the SyFy television adaptation of Revival based on the comic book series created by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton.
The Artifice Girl (Producer)

Old Man (Producer)
When a lost traveler stumbles upon an old man living in a remote cabin in the woods, the two engage in a lengthy conversation; one that will bring to light the truths they’ve been running from, the sins they’ve tried to forget, and the terrifying bond that connects them.
Old Man stars Stephen Lang and Marc Senter.
Scare Package (Writer/Director/Producer)
An anthology of short horror films, built into a frame narrative which acts as its own horror film. The frame narrative focuses on Chad Buckley, a horror aficionado who runs a struggling video store. He takes on a new hire, much to the chagrin of an obnoxious regular customer named Sam who has been trying to persuade Chad to hire him for years. The shorts are films that are either described to other characters or viewed as one of the video rentals offered at the store.

Camera Obscura (Writer/Director/Producer)
Jack Zeller is an intelligent, solitary man who continues to struggle with the horrors he witnessed as a war photographer. He receives a strange camera as an anniversary gift. As he develops the film, Jack realizes that the images show imminent deaths in the locations he photographed. As one horrific scene after another comes true, Jack is left with an enormous moral dilemma that challenges his already fragile sanity.
Camera Obscura stars Christopher Denham, Nadja Bobyleva, Noah Segan, Catherine Curtin, Chase Williamson, and Andrew Sensenig.
Revival (Writer/Director/Producer)
One miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly return to life. But these are not zombies, as the “revived” appear and behave just as they did before. As the mystery of this phenomenon fuels unrest, Dana Cypress, a down-on-her-luck and crass police officer and single mother, is thrust into a peculiar murder investigation-one where the murder victim is now alive, and everyone, whether living or revived, is a suspect.
Revival is based on the comic series created by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton. The series stars Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. The series premiered on June 12, 2025 and airs on SyFy.
