The Marvel Zombies Halloween special was written by Fred Van Lente (Jennifer Blood) with art from Alessandro Vitti (Green Lantern) and colors by Jean-François Beaulieu (I Hate Fairyland) with a cover by the outstanding Francesco Francavilla (Night of the Ghoul). The book was lettered by Cory Petit.
The 2012 one-shot gives us a glimpse at Katherine Pryde and her son Peter Rasputin Pryde living with zombies in the apocalypse. As mentioned before it is a wholesome story with a mother trying to protect her son from the evils that live outside. Explaining how life was before this all went down, featuring a discussion about Halloween.
Marvel Zombies Halloween features appearances by many Marvel characters but highlights include Squirrel Girl and her many evil zombified squirrels and the centerpiece villain of Mephisto (queue the WandaVision hopefuls).
Katherine finds a Wolverine costume for little Peter to wear as they try and relive what life would’ve been if zombies didn’t take over the world. Looking for candy, Katherine leaves Peter behind who inevitably finds a way to escape the safety of their home and get into trouble with Marvel superhero zombies.
As a Marvel comic book, the Marvel Zombies Halloween special goes as far as it can in the horror genre while still keeping itself grounded to most fringe horror fans. If you are a fan of both horror and superheroes, this is the one-shot for you, but even if one or the other doesn’t float your boat the book will work for you as well.
