I have said it before and I will continue to say it, sometimes there are crossovers that you never asked for but after reading them you cannot believe you lived without. The Muppets Take on the Marvel Universe happens to be just such crossover. When has anyone ever said, “you know what would be amazing, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy getting help from Spider-Man and Black Panther,” honestly. Somehow, this group of all-star creators made it happen and I am all the more grateful for it.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Muppet Show…we bring you a crossover no one saw coming! Rowlf The Dog kidnapped by Mojo? Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther and Emma Frost to the rescue? Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker experimenting with Gamma Rays and Pym Particles? What could go wrong? Find out in this epic tale told in the Mighty Marvel Muppet Manner!
What is crazy in 2026 and into 2027, well…let’s be honest there is a lot of ACTUAL crazy in 2026…but in pop culture are the milestone anniversaries we are getting. In 2027 we will get the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, but n 2026 we have 60 years of Star Trek as well as 50 years of The Muppet Show. Three very iconic properties with big birthdays. The best part is that the 87-year-old Marvel Comics crosses over with two of said properties, first The Muppets Take on the Marvel Universe, then in 2027 with Star Wars.
When entering a crossover story of this kind, you first have to wonder how they will make these two VERY different universes come together in the first place. Ultimately, this amazing anniversary special does it in fitting fashion using Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker allowing some of our favorite Muppets enter the multiverse and request the help of one surprising Marvel character to gather at team in their search for Rowlf The Dog.
What we then get is a collection of various stories featuring The Muppets and our favorite Marvel characters. The antics and action are plentiful, just what you’d expect when the Muppets are involved. Including stories from Chip Zdarsky & Pete Woods, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Ashley Allen, Chef Paul Carmichael, & Paco Medina, Kyle Starks & Mike Henderson, Phillip Kennedy Johnson & Áthila Fabbio, and Adam F. Goldberg & E.J. Su.
Each of these talented creators gave their own touch and spin on both The Muppets and Marvel, allowing this story to fit squarely in both universe and give us not just a crazy crossover but a love letter to the show that started 50 years ago. While maybe it’s not the earth shattering, world-ending, cataclysmic event crossover story that you may want from Marvel Comics, it was a super-fun and entertain jaunt with some fantastic characters.
The Muppets Take on the Marvel Universe is another outstanding crossover that I never knew I needed in my life. The team of creators pay homage and celebrate the history of The Muppet Show for its 50th Anniversary in fitting fashion with outstanding stories, artwork, and love for the ionic franchise.
