New York City, sometime in the far future, where robots like JoJo have taken over the tasks humans no longer want to perform…like driving a taxi. JoJo is pretty happy with his lot in life but feels as though something is missing…then he meets Gilda and it’s love at first sight. But the course of true love is a bumpy one and JoJo is going to find that out firsthand when he discovers that Gilda is entangled with the mafia that runs his beloved city, and they’re very much against this potential union for their own reasons. While I really enjoyed Francesca Perillo’s story, I really showed up for Stefano Cardoselli’s artwork. The illustrations are nothing short of spectacular with somehow a chaotic and picturesque feel creating a unique visual experience that complements the story. Cardoselli’s unique art style brings futuristic New York City to life in such an original way that really immerses us into the book.
As I dove into the pages of Love Me, I was quickly engrossed in JoJo’s life. While the four-issue miniseries was a fast-paced story, the emotional depth of the characters shined through. They all face unexpected obstacles that added complexity to their relationship and depth to the overall story. We truly were kept on edge wondering what would happen next.
Perillo’s writing captures the nuances of love and desire in this unique comic. The dialogue is witty and engaging giving us unique personalities and motivations. As I journeyed along with these characters I felt myself rooting for the love to conquer all obstacles.
Love Me: A Romance Story is a refreshing take on traditional romance comics, blending elements of sci-fi, and drama into a unique love story. Francesca Perillo and Stefano Cardoselli have created a truly memorable world filled with love, danger, and unexpected surprises around the corner.
