  • The Three-peat Guests

We are now only two episodes away from our 300th episode of the Capes and Tights Podcast. As we get ready to celebrate this milestone, we decided to look back at those guests who have become regulars on the podcast. Those guests include Adam Cesare, Zack Kaplan, Liana Kangas, Kyle Starks, Daniel Kraus, David M. Booher, and more.

While there are plenty of guests that have made the Capes and Tights Podcast what it is today, its these core guests who have taken the time over and over to join us on the podcast to discuss comics, books, movies, and more. Each creator has a full schedule and finding time to join our little podcast that could has done tremendous help to spreading the word to geeks all over.

When thinking back on these guests, we decide to put this together, along with a few words from each guest. The collection of guests are those who have joined the podcast four, or even five, times. There are at least nine guests who have joined three times, we want to thank them as well! We hope you enjoy this little slice of the history of the podcast and help us push towards episode 300, 400, 500, and beyond.

Adam Cesare

Adam CesareAdam Cesare is a five-time guest of the podcast, first joining us on Episode 77 to discuss his comic series Dead Mall at Dark Horse along with artist David Stoll. Cesare subsequently joined again for Episode 136 to discuss Clown in a Cornfield, Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives, and Influencer as part of our Horror Week in 2023. With the anticipated release of Clown in a Cornfield 3: Church of Frendo, Adam returned for Episode 181. For his fourth time suffering through recording with Capes and Tights, Cesare joined for Episode 225 to discuss the film adaptation of Clown in a Cornfield as well as the novelization of The Toxic Avenger. Finally, for now, he jumped on for Episode 295 to chat about Clown in a Cornfield 4: Lights! Camera! Frendo!, Video Night, Zero Lives Remaining, Mercy House, and more.

Cesare has been a true champion of the Capes and Tights Podcast and carved-out time in his busy writing and family schedule to talk with us. I am sure he will return in the near future to discuss the next chapter in his award-winning writing career. I mean Bloodsick is out in January…hey Adam…are you free?

Liana Kangas

Liana KangasLiana Kangas has joined the Capes and Tights Podcast four times over our first 300 episodes. Kangas first recorded with us for Episode 94 to discuss Know Your Station and TRVE KVLT, being such an outstanding guest we invited Liana back for Episode 124, this time to discuss Mariko Between Worlds. As we approached our 200th Episode we wanted to chat with someone who had been on a few times and would be fun to celebrate with, so we invited Kangas back for Episode 200 to just chat about the world of comics. In addition, Liana was gracious enough to illustrate for a commemorative Orono Brewing Beer Label to celebrate the 200th milestone.

In celebration of Star Wars Week 2025 at the Capes and Tights Podcast, we invited Kangas back for Episode 222, but this time with writer Alyssa Wong to discuss their story in the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Annual at Dark Horse. Liana has been a great friend of the podcast and we will continue to support their work and always keep a slot open for a return trip in front of the mic.

Kyle Starks

Kyle StarksKyle Starks is a four-time Capes and Tights Podcast guest and was our first milestone guest as well for Episode 100 where we discussed Where Monsters Lie. Starks returned to the mic for Episode 174 where he was joined by artist Ryan Browne to discuss From the World of Minor Threats: Barfly and again on Episode 228 to talk his Dark Horse series, Those Not Afraid. The most recent appearance for Starks came on Episode 268, discussing his DC Vertigo series End of Life and more.

Starks is always hard at work and will continue to be game join the podcast to chat comics, basketball, and more. I don’t think we can keep him away at this point.

I always have a great time on Capes and Tights! We love having a good conversation with someone so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the work! – Kyle Starks

Daniel Kraus

Daniel KrausNew York Times bestselling and Pulitzer Award-winning author Daniel Kraus is also a four-time guest of the Capes and Tights Podcast. Can we say “we knew Daniel Kraus before he was famous?”, not really, but he did join the podcast first on Episode 76 to discuss Year Zero, Vol. 0 from AWA Studios before retuning to the show for Episode 119 to discuss Whalefall. In honor of Whalefall, we also collaborated on a beer with Orono Brewing, fittingly titled Whalefall IPA.

Kraus took a nice gap between episodes when he joined us to discuss Pay the Piper and the Pay the Piper IPA (another collaboration with Orono Brewing) on Episode 182. Most recent, Daniel jumped on the podcast to discuss Partially Devoured: How Night of the Living Dead Saved My Life and Changed the World and his latest graphic novel, Athanasia, for Episode 271. It was not long after this episode aired when he was awarded the Pulitzer winner and we are honored to call him a friend.

Daniel is always busy on his next piece of work and is always welcome to join us to discuss it. His novel, Whalefall, was adapted into a feature film which hits theaters on October 16, 2026 starring Josh Brolin.

Nobody approaches interviews and analysis with the exploration and joy of Justin. It is always an honor, and a great time, to be on Capes & Tights, and I’ll be listening up through Episode 300,000. (At least.)” – Daniel Kraus

David M. Booher

David M. BooherDavid M. Booher is a four-time Capes and Tights Podcast guest, first joining the program on Episode 75 to chat about his BOOM! Studios comic series Specs before joining us again for Episode 122 to discuss the collected edition of Specs with artist Chris Shehan. Booher then came back to the podcast to discuss Ghostbusters: Back in Town, the bridge comic between Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, on Episode 156.

Following a long gap, David was gracious enough to jump back on the airwaves for Episode 256 to discuss his Kickstarter-funded comic Malloch the Damned and his EC Comics Shiver SuspenStories story.

We already have plans to invite David back to the podcast for a record-tying fifth episode before the end of 2026. Look out Adam Cesare, Booher is gunning for your title.

300 episodes! Wow. Making one episode of a podcast is an accomplishment, so getting into the hundreds is truly inspiring. I’ve loved every minute I’ve spent with Justin on the show. He’s always fun, funny, knowledgable, and supportive. Our community is stronger with his voice in it. I’m so glad to have been part of this incredible journey. All I can say is: keep going!!” – David M. Booher

Zack Kaplan

Zack KaplanZack Kaplan has graced us with his presence four times over the first 300 episodes of the Capes and Tights Podcast. We first chatted with Kaplan back on Episode 140, when we discussed Beyond Real, Mindset, and Kill All Immortals. Less than a year later, Zack was back on the podcast for Episode 171, again to chat more Kill All Immortals, but also The Midnight: Shadows and more.

After nearly a year, Kaplan was back to chat Masterminds at Dark Horse as well as even more Kill All Immortals for Episode 230. Most recently, Zack was joined by artist John Pearson (his fellow co-creator Mindset) to discuss their Dark Horse series The Smart Division for Episode 280.

As busy as Kaplan is working in comics, he finds time to chat with us podcasters and I am grateful for it. What also comes along with Zack’s work ethic is that there is always more stories to discuss in the future. Zack, should we already pencil-in a 2027 episode?

Capes & Tights has become an institution in the world of comics journalism with dynamic creators and fantastic interviews. Whether it’s insightful questions, provocative analysis or just a deep passion for great story-telling, Justin Soderberg curates a phenomenal conversation. It’s a pleasure to visit the podcast and I count on it every comic I make, knowing it will do more than help me promote the book – but help me create an experience for readers out there look to expand the journey. Congratulations on an amazing 300 episode milestone!” – Zack Kaplan

The Three-peat Guests

With 300 episodes, it is inevitable that we will talk to the same guests over and over again. Those listed above have been on the show at least four times, but there are a good amount of guests who have been on three times as well. Let’s give them a shoutout as well as we are extremely grateful.

Radio personality and writer Fearless Fred Kennedy debuted on Episode 107 to discuss Dead Romans, then again for Episode 118 and Episode 269.

Huge congrats to Justin for banging out the 300th episode of Capes and Tights! It makes me so happy. I am luck to have been on the show THREE times now…I am 1% Capes and Tights! Seriously though, it’s a great cast, and seeing it grow and succeed puts a huge smile on my face!” – Fearless Fred Kennedy

Writer Jonathan Hedrick joined us first on Episode 51 to discuss The Recount, before returning for Episode 66 and Episode 106. I feel like we are due for a new episode Jonathan, let’s make it happen in 2027!

Justin of ‘Capes and Tights’ is truly an unsung hero in the indie comic book community. His passion for this medium is apparent and I’m happy to call him a friend.” – Jonathan Hedrick

USA Today bestselling author Brian McAuley first appeared to discuss his Killer VHS entry, Candy Cain Kills on Episode 148, returned for the sequel on Episode 195, and last joined us to discuss Breathe In, Bleed Out on Episode 239. Of course he will return with his next book!

It’s always a blast visiting Capes and Tights podcast to chat with Justin. Thanks to his deep knowledge and appreciation of pop culture, every book becomes a gateway to a larger conversation about genre geekdom and the stories that connect us all.” – Brian McAuley

Three-time guests also include cartoonist Patrick Horvath (episodes #202, #232, #290); artist Jacoby Salcedo (episodes #147, #186, #296); cartoonist Tony Fleecs (episodes #36, #95, #273); cartoonist Jeremy Haun (episodes #70, #115, #241): writer Matthew Klein (episodes #68, #112, #216); and writer Tate Brombal (episodes #116, #189, #276).
