Memorable actor Brian Baumgartner along with Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning producer Ben Silverman have crafted a few books based around NBC’s iconic television series The Office, each with their own little spin on the history of the series. Now, the duo is back to give us the ever-important The Dunder Mifflin Employee Manual: How to Succeed in Work—and Life—According to The Office so we know exactly how to succeed at a Dunder Mifflin Branch such as Scranton.
This Dunder Mifflin Employee Manual draws on what we have learned from our team at Scranton. Here, in these pages, we have attempted to gather the ineffables that made the Scranton branch so successful and its employees so close. We promise that if you follow what they have to teach you, will you learn not only what it takes to remain employed at Dunder Mifflin, but also how to grow and thrive here.
Please take the time to review this employee manual carefully and reference it often. It will most certainly serve you in this job and hopefully all your jobs to come.
If this was actually a fictitious employee manual for those employees of Dunder Mifflin, I would’ve still picked it up and read from cover-to-cover as the series is one of television’s all-time best. Not to mention that Baumgartner, who portrayed Kevin Malone, and Silverman penned such manual. But what we actually get it is a summary of the series in a fun format where the authors touch on various subjects tackled on the show and allowed us longtime fans to take a stroll down memory lane in another amazing book.
The Office was an absolutely amazing and funny series with each episode standing on its own. But overall the series featured a few themes of connective tissue that made it what it was. From the relationships, to staff promotions, to the parties, while each had their own special story, they all had similar themes that made The Office standout and really made it something truly engaging and rewatchable.
Baumgartner, Silverman and fellow producer Warren Lieberstein take the entire series and boil it down to a number of subjects and themes and tell us a tale in the format of how to succeed at Dunder Mifflin, like the Scranton Branch does, due to said themes and subjects. It’s an ingenious way to reminisce as well as retell some of the stories featured in a few of our favorite episodes without just rehashing the moments themselves. Connecting these episodes, moments, jokes, and themes into teachable items made for a much more entertaining read.
The addition of a deeper breakdowns from the nine seasons, called Case Studies, allowed us to feel nostalgic for key episodes or moments such as The Dinner Party, The Duel, Yankee Swap, and more. These are the times in the show that will always standout over the history of the show and this addition to the manual made me want to rewatch the show even more. Baumgartner and Silverman also go into a bit more detail about various questions from the show in a FAQ section at the back of the book, again just another unique way to remember those iconic and funny moments of the series.
The Dunder Mifflin Employee Manual is a refreshing way to reminisce and enjoy the various moments of the iconic TV show in a whole new way. The Office actor Brian Baumgartner along with show producers Ben Silverman and Warren Lieberstein deliver a unique format to retell these memorable moments that is captivating and deepens my love for this insanely good television show.
