Review Overview

Step into a world where mechs battle monstrous creatures in combat, all for humanity’s survival. In Dawnrunner #1, written by Ram V (Venom, Detective Comics) and illustrated by Evan Cagle (Catwoman), readers are taken on an epic journey filled with action, intrigue, and stunning artwork.

The first thing that stands out in Dawnrunner #1 is the epic battle that takes place between the Iron Kings and the Tetza monsters. The action scenes are dynamic and intense, drawing readers in with every punch, kick, and explosion. The artwork by Evan Cagle truly brings these battles to life, creating a sense of urgency and excitement on every page.

Ram V’s writing is another standout aspect, per usual. His storytelling is well thought out and expertly crafted, making the reading experience smooth and engaging. The dialogue between characters feels natural and authentic, adding depth to the story and its characters. As you turn each page, you’ll find yourself fully immersed in the world of Dawnrunner.

One of the most visually striking elements of Dawnrunner is the design of both the Tetza monsters and the Iron Kings such as Dawnrunner. The creatures are beautifully illustrated with details that make them both terrifying and fascinating to look at. The Iron Kings, on the other hand, are powerful machines that exude strength and resilience.

As I read through Dawnrunner #1, I couldn’t help but feel excited about where Ram V is taking us in this series. The world-building is rich and immersive, hinting at larger conflicts and mysteries waiting to be uncovered. With each new revelation, I find myself eagerly turning pages to see what would happen next. It’s clear that this story has a lot of potential to captivate readers.

Dawnrunner is a thrilling start to what promises to be an exciting series. With its epic battles, well-crafted writing, stunning artwork, and intriguing world-building, this comic book has all the makings of a must-read and in the running for comic of the year.

Dawnrunner #1 hits local comic shops on March 20, 2024 from Dark Horse.

Ram V joins the Capes and Tights Podcast for Episode 154 on March 6, 2024 to discuss Dawnrunner and more!
