Comic book crossovers are not a new concept, but it seems they are more common now that publishers have multiple IPs under one umbrella or want to work together. So it honestly seems almost as a surprise that Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four took this long to be made. As I have said in the past, some crossovers make no sense, while others are just kismet. Marvel’s first family meeting up with those intelligent apes from the 20th Century Studios films is one of those that really works.
Marvel’s First Family find themselves stranded on the Planet of the Apes! Witness history as the Fantastic Four cross paths for the very first time with Cornelius, Zira, Ursus — and of course Dr. Zaius! But they won’t be going alone! Familiar foes from the Marvel Universe have set their sights on Ape City, setting the stage for a battle royale that fans won’t soon forget!
Josh Trujillo pulls together a story that is part what you’d expect and part the completely unexpected with Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four. It’s not far fetched for Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben to find themselves in other universes or timelines, so landing on the Planet of the Apes is one that is believable in the world of comics. This is what drew me into the story in the first place, a believable crossover where I don’t have to suspend my comic beliefs to understand.
With an outstanding premise and wonderful storytelling, such as dropping us into the action right off the bat and then flashing back to how we got where we are, made for a stellar premiere issue. Then in the finale pages we get the unexpected and are struck with a surprise that made an already fantastic comic into a series that is now a must-read.
The premiere issue gives off the vibe of the original Planet of the Apes films with a touch of the Fantastic Four. The artwork from Andrea Di Vito blends the old with the new in action-filled and high-stakes panels that made turning the page to see what happens next a thrill.
Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four is a crossover that I never knew I needed, but now feel like my life wouldn’t be complete without. Josh Trujillo and Andrea Di Vito transport us into the world of the Marvel’s First Family crossing paths with talking apes in an epic series I will eagerly be awaiting each month. Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four is a strong candidate for one of the best comic books of the year.
Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four #1 hit local comic shops on February 4, 2026 from Marvel Comics.
