Review Overview

The Mammoth written by Paul Tobin (Plants vs. Zombies) and illustrated by Arjuna Susini (Forever Forward, Lamentation) is a big supernatural horror story with a ton of depth. It delves into themes of love, death, and mystery, creating a unique and compelling narrative that sets it apart from typical ghost stories.

Something is wrong in the deep forests of Broke Tree Valley. Something deadly. Something mammoth. The legends speak of something larger than human comprehension…A monstrous phantom that disappears for decades at a time. Now, it’s back, and things are about to go Very Bad if four people-Olivia, Jess, Kokoro, and Mason, scientists who have come to the small city of Kasbro to investigate a bizarre series of seismic activities in this heavily forested valley-can’t put the Mammoth to rest. One real problem with this is…Olivia’s dead.

The outstanding illustrations perfectly complement the gripping storytelling in The Mammoth #1. From the cover art to every page within the debut issue, Susini’s artwork captures the chilling atmosphere of the forest setting and brings the terrifying story to life in detail. The combination of Tobin’s writing and Susini’s illustrations creates a truly immersive reading experience.

A horror story with supernatural tales with a touch of heart-wrenching emotion, The Mammoth delivers on all fronts. Its intricate plot twists and turns keep readers engaged until the very end of the debut issue, eagerly waiting for the second issue.

The Mammoth emerges as a standout in the realm of horror comics, weaving a narrative that not only serves bone-chilling supernatural thrills but also resonates with profound emotional depth. Poised to send ripples through the comic book landscape, this tale offers an unparalleled horror experience that captivates the heart.

Paul Tobin and Arjuna Susini have crafted a debut issue that sets the stage for an intriguing series filled with mystery, suspense, and heart-pounding terror. Dive into Broke Tree Valley with Olivia, Jess, Kokoro, and Mason as they confront the deadly Mammoth lurking in the shadows-it’s an unforgettable journey you won’t want to miss.

The Mammoth #1 hits local comic shops on June 5, 2024 (FOC: May 5) from Mad Cave Studios.
