Two of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe films are getting new release dates as the company pushes out Kraven The Hunter and Madame Web‘s theatrical releases.
Kraven The Hunter, which was originally set to hit theaters on January 13, 2023 will now move to October 6, 2023. The Madame Web picture which was originally schedule to release on July 7, 2023, and then on October 6, 2023 will now release on February 16, 2024.
These Marvel movies sit outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but are part of Sony’s Marvel Universe which includes the Venom and Morbius films as well as parts of the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy. Yes, it is confusing.
Kraven The Hunter is being directed by J.C. Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role alongside Ariana DeBose and Fred Hechinger. Kraven debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 (August 1964) as an adversary to the superhero Spider-Man, he has since endured as one of the web-slinger’s most formidable foes. The Hunter was created by the legendary Stan Lee and Steve Ditko duo.
Madame Web is being directed by S.J. Clarkson from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, and stars Dakota Johnson in the title role. Additionally, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet have been cast in undisclosed roles. She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 (November 1980) created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. She is usually depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, connected to a life support system resembling a spiderweb.
Wether the two Sony Spider-Man Universe films will get better reception than Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius will now have to wait just a little bit longer.
