One of the more vivid memories of my childhood was watching Power Rangers with my brothers. “It’s Morphin Time!” was a regular saying, but to think that all these years later I would be just as excited for a new Power Rangers story baffles me. It’s the love and passion of the universe that we get Power Rangers Unlimited by two super-fan writers Joey Esposito & Kenny Porter, and for this first issue artist Alessio Zonno. Power Rangers Unlimited comes at you fast and furious and is just what the doctor ordered.
At a mysterious base on the planet Aquitar, a morphinomenal program is taking shape… Under the guidance of the eccentric Operator and the Striking Tiger Unlimited Ranger, Power Rangers from across time and space are called upon to form elite teams and battle a rising evil!
Now when I say it comes at you fast and furious, I mean it. Power Rangers Unlimited takes little time to get going and doesn’t really let up throughout the premiere issue. I knew what I was sort of expecting when I opened up this issue, but it dives right in and lets you know what is going on as the issue progresses. An exciting, action-packed issue from start to finish, that’s for sure.
Power Rangers Unlimited also doesn’t waste anytime tossing our favorite Rangers from over the years with various characters for different versions of the properties fighting together against evil forces. This goes the same for those villains, we get not just a single force of villainy but a number of those we love to hate coming at these powerful Rangers all at once. It’s our Maine character, Striking Tiger Unlimited Ranger who keeps things together and sorted for us.
Striking Tiger is the common thread throughout this story, when we get thrown a number of different Rangers its Striking Tiger who is at the center of it all. It’s not just an action-packed story, but also has a bit of emotion and heart as we see later on in this first issue. There is more at play than just fighting, which gives this story so much depth that will only add to my love for the series as we move along.
The artwork by Zonno is fantastic and feels like Power Rangers at its core. The layouts, two-page spreads, and visuals are fantastic and just increase the action-packed feeling of this first issue. Zonno’s illustrations are only more impactful by Raúl Angulo’s vibrant colors and the absolutely incredible lettering by Ed Dukeshire. Power Rangers Unlimited is truly a visual feast for the eyes.
The premiere issue of Power Rangers Unlimited has a lot to look at and packed with action, setting the tone for the rest of the series. What makes this Unlimited series so amazing is we are in for a different genre next go-around with issue two hitting with horror vibes and art by Federico Sorressa. Each issue is a much anticipated addition to the Power Rangers universe of comics.
Power Rangers Unlimited was a much anticipated comic for me and delivers on this expectations and more. Kenny Porter and Joey Esposito give us nonstop action and surprising emotional depth, along with stellar artwork by Alessio Zonno, while embracing the dynamic history of the Power Rangers universe. Power Rangers Unlimited is the shot Morphin Grid energy the franchise has been waiting for. If this first issue is any indication of what’s to come, I am along for the ride!
Power Rangers Unlimited #1 hits local comic shops on July 1, 2026 from BOOM! Studios.
