For the first time since January 2020, the DC Vertigo imprint returns to the DC Comics lineup with its first series already out. The news was announced at New York Comic Con 2024.
Vertigo Comics was originally lunched in 1993 by Karen Berger. It was created to give DC the freedom to publish comics that feature more bold and mature content. DC discontinued the line in January 2020.
This news is huge for fans of the creator owned series from the past as well as those look for new series. Headed up by DC Comics’ Executive Editor Chris Conroy, who is also responsible for the DC Black Label imprint among others, DC Vertigo aims to bring back some archived series while also introducing new series.
“Hey, everyone. It’s back. New books to be announced. Some surprises from the archives coming as well. This is my editorial dream come true,” said Conroy via X (formerly Twitter). “DC Black Label continues, with some red-hot stories for DC’s superhero characters still on the way for years to come. Vertigo puts us back into the creator-owned business in a very big way. Yes, I’m running both; no, I haven’t lost my mind yet.”
The first series to release under the new DC Vertigo branding has actually already hit shelves. Originally printed under the DC Black Label imprint, James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martínez Bueno‘s The Nice House by the Sea will issue reprints of the first three issues with the new logo while issues starting with four will have first prints with DC Vertigo branding. The Nice House on the Sea will serve as the imprint’s flagship title.
