As new comic day quickly approaches it can be sometimes difficult to decide which of the new comics hitting the shelves at your local comic shop to grab. Do not worry, we are here to help. This week we preview four titles that standout from the crowd including Masterminds #1, TMNT: Shredder #1, and more!
While we are not the official voice of your decision, we want to help guide you in the right direction for comics releasing August 27, 2025.
Masterminds #1

Writer: Zack Kaplan
Artist: Stephen Thompson
Publisher: Dark Horse
When an ambitious and troubled video game programmer dares to audition for a secret society in the gaming/tech industry, composed of cutthroat, genius masterminds that promise to help their members achieve their wildest dreams, he and his rebellious co-worker find themselves in a gauntlet of real-life puzzles that quickly turn deadly. Are they truly smart enough to survive the mysterious game of the Masterminds?
Zack Kaplan may have hooked me with his story, but what truly kept me around in this premiere issue of Masterminds was Stephen Thompson‘s phenomenal artwork. After seeing these two partner up on The Midnight: Shadows, I knew I was in for a hell of ride and I was not wrong. Thompson’s sharp line work along with Thiago Rocha‘s colors brings Kaplan’s twisted world of games to life. This is a dream team launching a killer new series. – CLICK HERE to read our entire review
TMNT: Shredder #1

Writer: Dan Watters
Artist: Michele Bandini
Publisher: IDW Publishing
As a dark new power rises from the shadows of New York, so does a much darker power return to the city’s streets… for revenge. One of the most terrifying villains in the history of comics is back — and more deadly than ever!
Returned forever changed by a maddening ordeal beyond imagining, the Shredder is a man out of time, betrayed by all around him, without the Foot Clan, and quite possibly insane. When one of his former Foot prodigies forms their own rival clan with infernal designs on New York, a recovering Shredder must quest deep into the criminal underworld, where enemies both old and new will discover what defiance will bring them at the end of the Shredder’s blades.
Dan Watters and Michele Bandini bring the legendary badass TMNT villain back in TMNT: Shredder #1, and it hits hard. With an outstanding new character design by Mateus Santolouco that both new and old fans of the character will enjoy, Oroku Saki is back for revenge and I’m all in. – CLICK HERE to read our entire review
Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man #1

Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Dani
Publisher: Image Comics / Skybound
Jack Griffin has always been invisible to the people around him — at least in his own mind. But when an experimental breakthrough presents a path to make his dreams of invisibility a reality, no one — not even the woman he loves — will stand in his way.
Witness Griffin’s legendary descent into madness as his humanity fades away and the monster inside is revealed, leaving only… THE INVISIBLE MAN!
The horror dream team of James Tynion IV (Something Is Killing The Children, Exquisite Corpses) and Dani (The Low, Low Woods) reveal their vision for one of the most horrific monsters in cinematic history!
Those Not Afraid TP

Writer: Kyle Starks
Artist: Patrick Piazzalunga
Publisher: Dark Horse
Two serial killers discover they are within reach of the state record for kills and enter a terrible competition to see who gets there first. Learn more about our awful killers Mark Christopher Ewing and Daniel Dodson and their grotesque activities as we enter a frightening game of cat-and-mouse between killers and police. A great graphic novel for fans of true crime and murder fiction.
Those Not Afraid #1 captures the horror and dark humor I have come to expect from the Kyle Starks, paired with outstanding and gruesome artwork from Patrick Piazzalunga. This debut issue is just what I needed to kick-off the year and while it is early 2025, this series has a real chance at being one of the best comics of the year. – CLICK HERE to read our entire review of issue one
