The latest live-action DC Studios project, The Penguin, is set to drop on HBO this September. We get a series focusing not on the Dark Knight, but one of Batman’s rogues gallery of villains and the underbelly of Gotham City.
Set one week after the events of The Batman, the series explores the rise to power of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot / Penguin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
The Penguin was created by Lauren LeFranc for HBO. Based on the DC Comics character Penguin, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, it is a spin-off from the film The Batman that explores the Penguin’s rise to power in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. LeFranc serves as the showrunner of the series and is the director of the first and last episode of the first season. Matt Reeves, writer and director of The Batman, serves as executive producer.
Colin Farrell stars as Penguin, reprising his role from The Batman, alongside Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone and Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar. As appearing is Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O’Connell as Francis Cobblepot, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, James Madio as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen as Luca Falcone, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Theo Rossi as Julian Rush, and Carmen Ejogo as Eve Karlo.
The Penguin is scheduled to premiere in on HBO on Friday, September 19, 2024, and is set to run for eight episodes airing on Sundays until November 10, 2024.
