Did you know that the Deadpool feature film hit theaters 10 years ago this week? So it seems fitting that Wade Wilson: Deadpool would drop. With a nice blend of comic book Deadpool and what we saw on the feature film, writer Benjamin Percy and artist Geoff Shaw craft a new merc with a mouth series that feels right.
Dangerous. Unhinged. Deadly. Deadpool is a man on the brink, and that means the jobs are deadlier, the stakes are higher, and the humor is darker than ever before. But Wade Wilson isn’t laughing. A dark memory haunts Deadpool, as a mysterious client leads him down a troubling path. This way lies redemption? No, something far worse. Wade can never be forgiven for what he’s done…
Wade Wilson: Deadpool hits hard right off the bat with both the gruesomeness and comedy you’d expect from a Deadpool comic these days. It’s evident that Percy gets Deadpool humor and didn’t shy away from it in this first issue. Not only does this series have the feeling of a Deadpool comic, but has a strong feel from the feature films as well, which is good for the character.
Percy is able to blend together moments of amazing gore, along with comedic relief, while also brining us some emotional moments at the core of what makes Wade Wilson tick. While he comes of the gate with a bang, or more specifically a cow (read the comic to find out more), it’s all make sense over the well-paced first issue.
I can only imagine illustrating a Deadpool comic is one of those moments where you really get to let loose and do somethings with people you don’t normally do. Shaw handles it with ease and brings a grit to the story that works so well with Percy’s script. The artwork feels like Deadpool and is exactly what I had hoped for.
Wade Wilson: Deadpool is an unhinged new series with a blend of old school Deadpool and those only familiar with the films. Writer Benjamin Percy understood the assignment and along with artist Geoff Shaw and colorist Alex Sinclair with an amazing gory mixture of comedy, heart, and killing.
Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1 hit local comic shops on February 11, 2026 from Marvel Comics.
