For over 50 years, a single villain has been a thorn in the side of some of Marvel’s greatest heroes. His name is Kang the Conqueror and he has caused mayhem throughout time and space. From his future selves to his alternate counterparts, Kang has appeared across the pages of the Marvel Universe in various forms. Let’s explore who Kang is and what makes him such a memorable supervillain.

Who is Kang the Conqueror?

Kang the Conqueror (Nathaniel Richards) is an iconic supervillain who has caused much trouble for the Avengers and Fantastic Four over the years. He first appeared in Fantastic Four #19 (October 1963), created by Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, as an immortal Pharaoh from ancient Egypt called Rama-Tut. However, it wasn’t until later issues that it was revealed that he was actually Nathaniel Richards, a scientist from Earth’s 43rd century who had gained access to advanced technology and used it to travel back in time.

Since then, several other versions of Kang the Conqueror have appeared throughout Marvel titles, including his older selves Immortus and Iron Lad. Despite being centuries old, Kang remains one of Marvel’s most powerful villains due to his ability to manipulate time itself.

What are Kang the Conqueror’s Powers & Abilities?

Kang the ConquerorKang the Conqueror boasts many powers and abilities that make him one of Marvel’s most formidable villains; these include superhuman strength and agility, telepathy/telekinesis/psychokinesis, energy manipulation/projection, matter manipulation/transmutation, teleportation/interdimensional travel via time-space portals or wormholes, size alteration (ability to shrink or grow at will), time travel manipulation (ability to move through time or even create temporal paradoxes), immortality (due to his advanced age) and genius-level intelligence (due to having access to advanced technologies).

Additionally, he also possesses vast magical power which he inherited from his ancestor Rama-Tut. Due to being a master manipulator with considerable knowledge of advanced technology from both past and future timelines of Earth-616 reality – combined with access to vast resources – Kang the Conqueror can build sophisticated weapons out of components scavenged from multiple eras. These weapons are often based on alien technology or even built by aliens themselves in order for Kang to use them against his enemies more effectively.

In addition to all this power comes great responsibility; since he is able manipulate space-time itself so easily – often with disastrous consequences – it becomes increasingly important for him to be aware of the various timelines in which he operates so as not to cause any major disturbances in either present or future realities. This makes him something of an anomaly amongst villains since most tend not only seek destruction but also tend not think about their actions beyond immediate gratification.

Despite all this power however – when confronted with opponents such as The Avengers or Fantastic Four – even Kang the Conqueror must resort somewhat devious tactics such as mind control or creating alternate realities – in order overcome them successfully….but we shall see!

Kang the Conqueror in the MCU

Kang the Conqueror first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as “He Who Remains” in the Disney+ streaming series Loki. He is portrayed by Jonathan Majors who is set to play an alternate version of the character in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. We can expect see plenty more him moving forward!

In the MCU, Nathaniel Richards is a scientist from the 31st Century, who had discovered the existence of the Multiverse and his alternate selves. Unlike most of his Variants, Richards sought to conquer as many worlds as possible, so he started the Multiversal War, becoming known as Kang the Conqueror. Kang’s attempt to conquer the Multiverse was foiled, as his other self, He Who Remains, isolated the timeline to keep Kang from his goal. However, when Sylvie Laufeydottir killed He Who Remains, Kang returned and became the new ruler of the Time Variance Authority.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023 in his feature film debut.
