The San Diego Comic-Con is back in action after a two years away with Marvel making their return after a three year absence. Marvel is expected to make a few Marvel Cinematic Universe announcements at SDCC during their panels.
While we don’t expect earth-shattering MCU news to come out of SDCC, we do expect future project news and some updates on current projects already in the works.
This list is broken down into three categories. The Take It To The Bank category is for those announcements either already announced or have a strong chance of being topics of discussion. In the More Likely Than Not category we placed the might have a good chance of being part of the panels, but also could be avoided. Lastly, the Long Shots category is for those announcements that have a small, close to no chance of being talked about.
It should be said that Marvel may hold onto some of the bigger news for Disney’s D23 Expo from September 9-10, 2022.
We are tossing a dart at the board with some of these items, but let’s take a look.
TAKE IT TO THE BANK
MCU Animated Disney+ Series
We already know that Marvel has announced they will have first-looks at Marvel Zombies, X-Men ’97 and the second season of What If…?. So this is a safe bet to say that news of the MCU animated series will be talked about at SDCC.
What to keep an eye on is release dates of these series. The long shot series to be talked about is Spider-Man: Freshman Year, but its not off the table.
The MCU Animated Panel takes place on Friday mid-day.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever First-Look
The Black Panther sequel will release in theaters on November 11, 2022 and with only 113 days from SDCC to the release, it’s safe to say there will be some sort of footage or trailer released at the event. Yes, the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer was revealed only 81 days from its theatrical release, but word is that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be making waves in San Diego.
The Marvel Studios panel takes place on Saturday evening.
Werewolf by Night Halloween Special Announced
With only 100 days between the MCU panel at SDCC and Halloween, there is a high chance a Marvel announcement coming out of the weekend. Casting for the special has been reported by many outlets with Gael Garcia Bernal (Old, Station Eleven) set to be Werewolf by Night and composer Michael Giacchino as director.

MCU Update on Blade
The last time Marvel was at SDCC, the biggest news they released was the reveal of Mahershala Ali (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, House of Cards) as Blade in an upcoming feature film. Now, three years later we hope for an update on the film. No one expects a trailer or footage at the panel, one might think Kevin Feige will bring us an update with possible cast on stage.

MORE LIKELY THAN NOT
Guardians of the Galaxy Footage
James Gunn teased a SDCC Guardians of the Galaxy presence, but will it be Volume 3 footage, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special or a bit of both? The Holiday Special is set to hit Disney+ this holiday season, so seeing footage from it is very likely. GoG, Vol. 3 is set for May 2023 and there is a small chance Marvel waits for D23 for this footage.
The MCU panel takes place on Saturday evening.
The Marvels and Ant-Man 3 Looks
With the finale of Ms. Marvel over at Disney+, one can expect to see footage or looks at Kamala Khan’s return along with Carol Danvers in The Marvels. The sequel to Captain Marvel is set for July 2023. Additionally, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will release in February 2023, so footage of this film is likely.
These types of footage are usually never shown on the internet and view exclusively by attendees of the event. So don’t be too excited about seeing these clips.

Some Disney+ Shows Get Updates
With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law only a few weeks away, a trailer can be expected over the weekend. So, technically She-Hulk could’ve been in the “Take It To The Bank” category. Other Disney+ shows such as Echo and Secret Invasion might get first-looks or updates. Rumors hit the internet this week that the ladder has been pushed from the rumored end-2022 release to an early 2023 release.

LONG SHOTS
Fantastic Four Casting Updates
Now this was a different story 24 hours ago, it shifted from the likely to the long shot category while writing this piece. Rumors have popped up that Marvel is expect to announce the cast of the MCU Fantastic Four film at Disney’s D23 Expo in September. Therefor it would leave us to believe no announcement will be made at SDCC. However, don’t count out any FF announcements from this upcoming event.
The Marvel Studios panel takes place on Saturday evening.
X-Men Announcements
Possible Spoilers ahead… Now with the fantastic reveal in the season finale of Ms. Marvel, the buzz could be humming with a possible X-Men or more mutant announcements. However, don’t bet on it. News about the future of the MCU including X-Men will likely be off in the distance and if announced anytime soon, it likely will be at the house of mouse’s own event.
