How do you read so many comics with a full-time job, two kids, a wife, while also running Capes and Tights? This is a good question. One that could’ve ended my marriage, left me homeless, and begging for creators to let me read their comics for free. Enter GlobalComix.

While GlobalComix is far from the first to attempt at a comic book reading library and app, they seem to be one of the few to get it right. The team has crafted a website and app that allows us readers to access and read comics no matter where they are made, what language they’re in or how they were formatted. Just giving us an easy way to enjoy comics without having to think too much.
Over the years I have gradually moved my reading of my favorite comics to the hour before falling asleep. This got tougher when I got married as my wife tends to want to fall asleep prior to my mind shutting off. The ability to read single floppy issues or trade paperbacks in bed with the light on became more and more difficult when I kept my wife from sleeping. I was going to have to decide between my marriage and my comics. One that seems like an easy decision, but have you read the new Transformers series by Daniel Warren Johnson? Now, I don’t need to make this difficult decision due to the launch of GlobalComix.
The ability to read my comics on my iPad or phone laying in bed while my beautiful wife sleeps next to me was made simple by the GlobalComix app. Reading digitally on a device with a backlight allowed for the bedroom lights to be off and the page turning to be quiet. My wife could sleep while I read which is a win-win.
While the benefits for me focus around reading in bed at night so my wife can sleep, they extend past that. I find myself also traveling around a lot and carrying with me a trade paperback or worse a floppy comic can be problematic. Plus, if you finish said paperback or single issue you are in a bind to continue to read. Reading comics digitally allows for continuous reading as well as easier reading all at my finger tips.
With publishers such as Image Comics, Dark Horse, DC, BOOM! Studios, AWA Studios, Oni Press, Dynamite Entertainment, Mad Cave Studios, Magma Comix, and more it is hard not to find something to read. With comparisons to Spotify and Netflix, GlobalComix is one subscription with unlimited access (as low as $7.99/month) so you won’t miss out on an issue or run out of comics to read. The app also allows individual pdf purchases as well as the subscription model.
While I am gushing about the ability to read comics on GlobalComix and the app saving my marriage, they are one of the few digital comics apps to allow publishing from anyone. You can create a comic and release it digitally on their platform for free or even monetize the comic to bring in some cash. This allows for more of a wide range of comics as well as reading some of the lesser known creators and support those trying to make it in a hard business. All this without having to stumble upon them at a comic convention or find them in the wide world of the internet.
GlobalComix is changing the game in the world of digital comics and we are here for the ride. Making it easier for me to access the comics I want makes life so much more enjoyable and allows me to read a few pages when I have free moments without having to remember where I left off or where the single issue or trade even is at that moment.
