All 6 Scream Movies Ranked

Wes Craven gave us one of the best slasher films of all-time in 1996 with Scream. Now, six films have been released in the Scream franchise with a seventh in active development. Continuing Horror Week at Capes and Tights we rank all six films.

The first four films were directed by Craven. Kevin Williamson wrote Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 4, and is set to return to direct the seventh film. Ehren Kruger wrote Scream 3. The Scream (2022) and Scream VI installments were directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt serving as writers and Williamson returning as executive producer. The film series has grossed over $910 million at the global box office.

Additionally, a television series aired from 2015-2019 on MTV and VH1.

Let’s dive into the list…

6. Scream 3 (2000)

Scream 3

In the final installment to this trilogy, a murdering spree begins to happen again; this time targeted toward the original Woodsboro survivors and those associated with the movie-inside a-movie, Stab 3. Sydney must face the demons of her past to stop the killer(s).

5. Scream 4 (2011)

It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott has written a self-help book. She returns to Woodsboro for her book tour, and reconnects with old friends Gale Weathers and Sheriff Dewey. However, Sidney’s arrival also sparks the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney and everyone she loves in danger.

4. Scream (2022)

Scream (2022)

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

3. Scream VI (2023)

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

2. Scream 2 (1997)

Scream 2

Sydney and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers survived the events of the first “Scream,” but their nightmare isn’t over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of “Stab,” a movie based on the events from the first film, it’s clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sydney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey and Randy have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.

1. Scream (1996)

The sleepy little town of Woodsboro just woke up screaming. There’s a killer in their midst who’s seen a few too many scary movies. Suddenly nobody is safe, as the psychopath stalks victims, taunts them with trivia questions, then rips them to bloody shreds. It could be anybody…
