Martin Freeman has confirmed he will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Freeman will return as Everett K. Ross an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Secret Invasion stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; Ben Mendelsohn as Talos; Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill; and Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes. Additionally, Kingsley Ben-Adir has been cast as an unknown lead villain, with Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo cast in undisclosed roles. Dermot Mulroney is expected to appear as United States President Ritson.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe series is loosely based on the comic book story-arc by the same name. Where a sect of shapeshifting aliens, the Skrulls, have infiltrated all aspects of life on Earth. Secret Invasion will last six episodes, directed by Thomas Bezucha (Big Eden, Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (Manhunt, Criminal Minds).
Freeman will also appear in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the 2018 film starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular character. Boseman has since passed. Black Panther 2 will release on November 11, 2022. Freeman has also portrayed Ross in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War.
Secret Invasion was one of the most popular comics story arcs from the early 2000s spearheaded by veteran writer Brian Michael Bendis. The Skrulls first appeared in Fantastic Four #2 (January 1962).
Everett K. Ross first appeared in Marvel Comics in Ka-Zar #17 (September 1998), created by artist Kenny Martinez and writer Christopher Priest. In the comics he is affiliated with the National Security Agency (NSA) and United States Department of State (DOS).
Secret Invasion is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
