Review Overview

Antarctica #1 by writer Simon Birks and artist Wili Roberts has been a much anticipated comic book of 2023 and it did not disappoint with its debut.

Antarctica #1 follows the story of Hannah, a woman whose life takes a downward spiral when her father disappears from the Smith-Petersen Research Station in Antarctica. Desperate for answers, Hannah takes up a job at the same station and uncovers a conspiracy that threatens her beliefs and everything she has ever known. It’s a gripping tale that keeps you hooked from beginning to end.

One of the first things that immediately catches your attention is the stunning artwork by Wili Roberts. Every page is visually striking, and the unique layouts and designs give the comic a signature style. The artwork is complemented by the excellent lettering work of Lyndon White, which enhances the overall reading experience.

The storytelling, which is Birks’ strength, is exceptional. The pacing is just right, and the plot twists and turns keep the readers on their toes. The characters are well developed, and you find yourself rooting for Hannah throughout.

The debut issue ends with a major cliffhanger that has us on our toes waiting for the next issue. The way Birks weaves elements of science fiction and conspiracy into the story is impressive. Antarctica has the potential to become one of our top comic books of the year.

Simon Birks’ latest creation is a must-read for fans of sci-fi comics. The combination of Stargate and His Dark Materials makes for a unique story that is both gripping and intriguing. The artwork by Wili Roberts and the lettering by Lyndon White elevate the overall experience of the comic book. Birks’ storytelling ability shines through, and we cannot wait to see what he has in store for us in the upcoming issues.

Antarctica #1 hit local comic shops on July 12.
