The next chapter in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, drops just before Christmas and to close out the year in comic book movies.
After failing to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta wields the power of the mythic Black Trident to unleash an ancient and malevolent force. Hoping to end his reign of terror, Aquaman forges an unlikely alliance with his brother, Orm, the former king of Atlantis. Setting aside their differences, they join forces to protect their kingdom and save the world from irreversible destruction.
The film is directed by James Wan from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, based on a story conceived by Wan, Johnson-McGoldrick, Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, and Jason Momoa.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Momoa returning as Arthur Curry / Aquaman alongside Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius / Ocean Master, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane / Black Manta, and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. Also joining the cast is Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.
The sequel is expected to bring in $50-$60 million on its opening weekend during the Christmas holiday. Will it live up to the original film, which is the high-grossing film based on any DC character with $1.152 billion.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters on December 20, 2023.
