We’ve all heard of ghost stories… but what stories do the ghosts themselves tell us? The groundwork is laid in the latest horror comic from BOOM! Studios, Ghostlore.
An estranged daughter and her pastor father wander a haunted land; they only have the restless spirits, each with its own story to tell, as company along the way. After a deadly accident of which they were the only survivors, Lucas and Harmony Agate can see the dead-an overwhelming amount of the deceased, all with their own warnings, cries for help, and malevolence alike. But Lucas and Harmony aren’t the only ones with this ability; there are other nearly-deads, some of which have malicious motivations…
Cullen Bunn of A Legacy of Violence and The Empty Man is joined by superstar artist Leomacs (Basketful of Heads) and guest artist Brian Hurtt (The Sixth Gun)-the first in a haunting lineup of artists featured in each issue-to bring readers the most eye-opening spectral story since The Sixth Sense!
What a perfect comparison…The Sixth Sense. While we don’t get too involved with the ghost stories during Ghostlore #1, the groundwork has been laid for us to read some truly terrifying stories in upcoming issues.
Bunn and the rest of the creative team gave us a debut issue in which they explain how we get to the point of the series, ghost stories from the ghosts themselves. The beautiful illustrated and well written first issue gives us plenty of backstory and perfectly leaves us wanting more.
Cullen discussed this first issue a touch on Episode 96 of the Capes and Tights Podcast, explaining the first issue is slightly different than the rest of the series as we need to know more about the reason for the series.
Ghostlore #1 hits local comic book shelves on May 10, 2023 from BOOM! Studios.
