Government conspiracies, coverups, and shadow organizations with an amazing story and art has us in awe over the first issue of The ’06 Protocol from AfterShock Comics.
Written by Lee Turner and illustrated by Cliff Richards (10 Years To Death, Batman: Red Hood – The Lost Days, Wonder Woman: Mission’s End), The ’06 Protocol hit shelves at your local comic book shop on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Wonderful colors by Matt Herms and lettering by Cardinal Rae.
The seemingly perfect life of the Mirino family is shattered when family patriarch, Faust, is brutally murdered on a quiet summer night. His wife, Cat, and 16-year-old daughter, Missy, are forced to confront a shocking truth about Faust’s involvement in a secret government program known as The ’06 Protocol.
Now, Cat and Missy have to protect each other as they are hunted, and haunted, by the people and secrets of Faust’s double life.
Of course the solicitation got me to purchase the book and after diving into the story and seeing the outstanding artwork I now know I made the right choice. With amazing layouts and angles, Richard’s artwork is something else. One page in particular has artwork and styling I have never witnessed before while starring for minutes at the page.
Turner’s script with twists and turns, plus allowing us readers the ability to care and love the characters within the pages just adds to the whole experience. Using a badass female character as the comic books lead is also something that made the book standout from the others on the shelf this week.
While I only considered a few comic book issues in the history of comics close to perfect, this is as close to those other books as it can come. What the creative team was able to accomplish in this debut issue of The ’06 Protocol makes me even more excited for the second issue to drop on October 19, 2022.
