It’s hard to imagine the annoyance of working from the census in normal life, not to mention counting demons in the Underworld.
Written by Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance) and Adam Freeman with artwork from Sebastian Piriz (We Ride Titans, Exorcists Never Die) and lettering from Bernardo Brice, Census is a comic book new series released in late 2022 under the ComiXology Originals banner. It follows the story of Liam Malone, who gets his first real job – counting demons for the Underworld census. But can he keep his job? His life? Most importantly, can he keep his pants?
In Census, Liam Malone is an aspiring writer who takes on his first job as a census taker in the underworld. As he navigates through the dangerous world of demons and monsters, Liam quickly realizes that there’s more at stake than just counting creatures; each creature provides insight into their own unique story and motivations. With each story comes more questions and dangers that Liam must face in order to complete his mission.
Bernardin has been making waves in both comics and television writing over the years. He has written for television shows like Masters of the Universe: Revelation, The Legend of Vox Machina, Castle Rock among others. His latest project sees him team up with Freeman to create an exciting new comic series. With artwork from Piriz and lettering from Brice, this series is an extremely beautiful creation.
In addition to creating comics, Bernardin also has a short film coming out in 2023 titled Splinter which will explore a plane that never lands, a plane with just one passenger. A ten-year-old orphan. What could he have done to earn such an elaborate prison? What might happen if he ever gets out? If you could guarantee the safety of millions by doing a horrible thing to an innocent soul…would you?
