Dahlia in the Dark takes you on a thrilling ride filled with supernatural beings, hidden truths, and family ties. The Mad Cave Studios collected edition hits shelves in trade paper on August 23, 2023. Dahlia in the Dark, written by Ringo award winner and Eisner nominated author Joe Corallo and illustrated by rising star artist Andrea Milana, is one of many outstanding miniseries coming for the good people at Mad Cave Studios.
The miniseries follows the story of Donny Dahlia, a washed-up hitman, who takes one last job to deliver a package that takes him through a war between the fairy realms that could determine the fate of humankind. Along the way, he finds himself caught in a web of kidnapping, mobsters, and supernatural beings. The story is beautifully crafted, with well-thought-out characters and plot twists that keep you guessing till the end.
Dahlia in the Dark‘s use of different colors to represent the difference between past and present allows for a smooth, easy reading experience. The muted colors and use of contrast create a dark and moody atmosphere, which is perfect for the comic book’s storyline. As you read through the comic book’s scenes, it feels like you’re watching a movie with visually stunning effects.
Apart from excellent visuals, Dahlia in the Dark also features great use of lettering by Micah Myers, whose work adds to the comic book’s immersive experience. This is no surprise to us. The sound effects are authentic, and the lettering adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative. The dialogue between the characters is both witty and engaging, presenting real-world relationships even in a fantastical story.
The most refreshing aspect of Dahlia in the Dark is its approach to family and hidden truths. The story’s premise is simple, trying to reconcile with his estranged daughter, Donny Dahlia takes one last job. But as the story progresses, he gets caught in the middle of a war between the fairy realms that could determine the fate of humankind. The comic book explores the theme of family dynamics, estranged relationships, and hidden truths, giving it an emotionally resonant quality that’s relatable.
The Dahlia in the Dark trade paperback hits bookstores everywhere on July 18, 2023 and local comic shops on August 23 (FOC: July 3). If you want to get a jump on reading the series you can pickup the digital copies on the Omnibus App!
