Science fiction meets cosmic horror in Dark Empty Void by hit comic creator Zack Kaplan, fan-favorite artist Chris Shehan, rising star colorist Francesco Segala and Ringo-nominated letterer Justin Birch.
Scientists have created a stable, microscopic black hole in a secret underground compound, but when they lose control, the black hole spews out a cosmic maelstrom, strange dangerous creatures, and most surprisingly…a mysterious human teenage girl. Now, a depressed but brilliant psychologist must help her estranged husband and the other scientists solve the mystery and close the black hole before it consumes all of Earth.
Dark Empty Void #1 follows a psychologist tasked with helping her estranged husband and his colleagues close the black hole before it devours everything in its path. This gripping story sets the stage for what is sure to be an epic adventure filled with twists and turns.
Zack Kaplan has a keen ability to write a smooth reading and engaging comic, this is no different in Dark Empty Void. His ability to blend science fiction with elements of horror creates a compelling tale that draws us in from the very first page. The dialogue between characters feels super authentic which adds depth to their personalities and allows us to connect with these fictional characters on a personal level. Kaplan gives us real life obstacles in addition to science fiction themes making for a truly immersive comic.
In addition to Kaplan’s stellar writing is the stunning artwork from Chris Shehan. Each panel brings to life what seems to be a normal world but adds in the stunning visualizations of a black hole. What we get is a beautiful pairing of writer and artist (as well as colorist and letterer) that truly shines on each and every page. A unique color palette from Francesco Segala adds a layer of depth to Dark Empty Void which enhances Shehan’s illustrations to create an atmospheric debut issue. Shehan and Segala’s talents are on full display and elevates a wonderfully written comic to new heights, setting itself apart from other sci-fi comics on the market.
Dark Empty Void #1 is just more proof that Zack Kaplan (Mindset, Kill All Immortals) knows how to hook a reader with a debut issue. Add in the tremendous work from Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter, The Autumnal), Francesco Segala and Justin Birch and you get a comic that sets a high standard for what’s to come in this exciting new series. We cannot wait to see where the creative team takes the mystery behind the black hole in future issues.
Dark Empty Void #1 hits local comic shops on September 11, 2024 (FOC: August 12) from Mad Cave Studios.
