Get ready to join forces with your gaming partners for a unique and interactive murder mystery experience. The Hunt A Killer series provides an engaging team activity, from solving cryptic clues in the Dead Below Deck version of the game, all while trying to crack the case!
What stands out for Hunt A Killer games, not just Dead Below Deck, is the working together with friends or family and using your smarts not just luck to “win” the game. While some board games, ahem Monopoly we are looking at you, can take hours upon hours to complete, Dead Below Deck only took my wife and I around 90 minutes to solve a murder. The perfect amount of time to allow our son to nap.
This immersive game has a combination clues including pieces of paper, brochures, physical items, notes, and a lockbox in addition to witness video statements, Captain’s log, screenshots and more via the mobile app. All this evidence helps guide you to find the killer and why this person killed.
These clues can stand alone or need to be cross-referenced with other clues to determine their validity. Hunt A Killer also provided a challenging and stimulating experience through the strategically-placed red herrings that thickly season their game. While certain individuals may initially appear to be prime suspects, further evidence quickly provides exonerations – proving these persons’ innocence when it comes to Rachel’s death… but they could still have some unseen backstories.
While we only stumbled upon this game in the aisles of Target while looking for a new game to play, we were very happy with the way it turned out. Additionally, the design of the game allows you to put it back together in the box and lend to a friend of family member for their enjoyment.
Dead Below Deck is recommended to anyone looking for a game to work together with friends to solve a mystery. Great for a dinner party but also great for a couple looking to put their minds together while their little ones are sleeping or playing elsewhere!
About Dead Below Deck
After a riotous night of drinking and partying aboard The Old Thunder, a premier luxury yacht, passenger William Bonnys finds himself embroiled in a sinister murder mystery. Upon entering the sauna to nurse a hangover, William discovers the body of Rachel Veinson, the yacht’s stewardess. Though Captain Javier Rackhams initially rules Rachel’s death as an accident, the passengers and crew can’t help but whisper about the strange circumstances surrounding the death below deck.
And though everyone would like to believe that Rachel’s death was an accident, other strange incidents and stories on board are making it all too clear: those on board are stranded in the middle of the Caribbean with a killer.
Was Captain Rackhams covering up for something when he said Rachel’s death was an accident? Was the lively Rachel at deadly odds with a fellow crew member? Or perhaps she ran into an unsavory guest…Captain, crew, and passengers—everyone is a suspect.
