Review Overview

The unique take on ghostly adventures in Dead Seas #1 from IDW Publishing grabs you and takes you along for the ride!

New York Times bestselling author Cavan Scott (Star Wars, Batman) and Scottish artist Nick Brokenshire (Star Wars Adventures, The Once and Future Queen) bring you the supernatural thriller comic book Dead Seas #1 with letters by Shawn Lee.

Ghosts are real and dangerous. But they’re also valuable, their ectoplasm capable of curing countless diseases. There’s only one problem: harvesting the wonder drug can be just as deadly. Prisoner Gus Ortiz is willing to take the risk in return for a reduced sentence-anything to see his daughter again. All it will take is a few months at sea scraping ectoplasm off the walls of the Perdition, a floating prison containing the most vicious ghosts on Earth. Surrounded by dark waters, Gus soon realizes that angry spirits are the least of his worries. The Poseidon Adventure meets The Haunting of Hill House in this supernatural thriller.

As with the last few comic book reviews, the partnership between the writer and artist in this book is outstanding. Brokenshire’s art style works perfect for this story and his unique take on the way ghosts look and feel. A design that makes Dead Seas standout amongst the rest of ghost stories.

Scott’s easy to read and the great pacing allows you to easily understand what is happening and creates an extremely enjoyable experience. Scott and Brokenshire’s combined skills, along with outstanding lettering from Lee, is a team I will follow as the series moves along.

Be sure to contact your local comic book shop and have them order the debut issue of Dead Seas for the December 21, 2022 release and the second issue on January 25, 2023.

Scott and Brokenshire will join the Capes and Tights Podcast for Episode 78 in early 2023 to discuss Dead Seas.
