Life is all about the choices we make and the consequences that come along with them. But what happens when your decisions lead you down a path you never imagined? Writer Ryan Cady and artist Christian DiBari address this very question in their latest comic, Destiny Gate.
Destiny Gate begins during the Great Depression, where Mitchell Slate is returning home empty-handed and feeling guilty and ashamed. However, his train ride quickly descends into a surreal and twisted journey, with the train taking on supernatural elements, and Mitchell’s mind playing tricks on him. The further he goes, the more he realizes that there’s more at play here than a simple train ride gone wrong – something much darker.
Ryan Cady, the brilliant writer behind the sensational titles such as Haunt You To The End and Infinite Dark, has once again outdone himself. Cady’s script in Destiny Gate is fascinatingly complex, with complex characters and curveballs at every turn. It’s the perfect blend of horror and fantasy that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
To make things more appealing, Destiny Gate is complemented by beautiful lines by Christian DiBari and colors by Simon Gough. The style is dark, gritty, and almost haunting, which helps to enhance the story’s ominous tone. From the creature designs to the landscape, to the character’s facial expressions, it’s clear they are talented artists.
What makes Destiny Gate unique is its blending of genres. It’s dark and brooding, like a horror film, but also exciting and action-packed, like an epic fantasy tale.
Ryan Cady’s engaging and complex script, paired with Christian DiBari’s hauntingly beautiful artwork, makes for an unforgettable debut issue. It’s thrilling, action-packed, and thought-provoking all at the same time.
Destiny Gate #1 hits local comic shops on October 11, 2023 (FOC: 9/18/23) from Top Cow at Image Comics.
