As vampires rise in numbers across the globe, Dracula sets his sights on Blade’s daughter, Brielle Brooks. With Danny Lore (Stranger Things) at the helm of the story and Vincenzo Carratú (Mary Jane & Black Cat) bringing the art to life, Dracula: Blood Hunt is a thrilling and action-packed addition to the Blood Hunt event.
Vampires are making their presence known worldwide and it’s conceivable to assume that Dracula would find joy in this chaos. However, as he hunts down the daughter of Blade, Brielle Brooks, things turnout different than we expected. Which seems to the case as Blood Hunt gets going.
This debut issue starts off with two perspectives, one being Dracula in Vampire Nation and the other Brielle Brooks attempting to be a normal high school teenager. By the end of the first issue the two perspectives join together, but one thing that the Vampires didn’t expect that Brielle would not only have the abilities of her father, but the kick-ass ability to kill vampires.
Dracula: Blood Hunt, and really all of the Blood Hunt crossover so far, has been able to wonderfully blend aspects of horror, action and superhero for a dark and gritty atmosphere that captures for vampire lore and the main plot perfectly. Engaging writing from Danny Lore had us wondering which creatures lurked around the corner.
Carratú’s artwork is equally impressive and works extremely well in the Blood Hunt event, along with pairing perfectly with Lore’s writing. The characters look menacing when they need, and the life of an ordinary teenager at high school gave us a lighter feel, until it wasn’t. This improved the overall reading experience.
What promised to be an epic confrontation between Dracula and Brielle, turned out entirely different and was surprisingly well done. This debut issue gave us just enough to keep us wanting more from the Blood Hunt event.
Dracula: Blood Hunt blends horror, action, and drama into a wonderful debut issue that left us eagerly waiting of the next installment. With Lore’s gripping storytelling and Carratú’s stunning artwork, this series is going to be an excellent addition to the overarching storyline. If you are picking and choosing your Blood Hunt comics, this is one you should choose.
