The creative team behind Stray Dogs is back in a bad way. Written by Tony Fleecs and beautifully illustrated by Trish Forstner, Feral introduces us to three indoor cats who find themselves lost in the wilderness during a rabies outbreak. With elements of horror and comedy woven throughout the story, the debut issue is a unique and thrilling experience.
Feral is both intriguing and terrifying as Elsie, Lord Fluffy Britches, and Patch are left to navigate their way through the dangerous forest. The balance between horror and comedy is executed perfectly by Fleecs providing moments of relief through witty dialogue and humorous situations.
What sets Feral apart from other horror comics is its unique premise. While we’ve seen plenty of stories about humans facing off against monsters, it’s rare to see a tale where animals take center stage. The idea of domesticated cats having to survive in the wild adds an extra layer of tension to the story. Aside for the outstanding Stray Dogs series, of course.
Trish Forstner’s artwork is nothing short of stunning. The illustrations bring the feline characters to life in a way that is both realistic and whimsical. Her ability to bring the animated films by Don Bluth from our childhoods back into our lives is fantastic and we keep wanting more!
Tony Fleecs’ writing shines in Feral as he continues to prove he is one hell of a comic book writer, while also continuing as a dynamic artist as well. It’s nice to see Tony put the pencils down and dive into the script in Feral.
Feral is an outstanding followup to the widely successful and popular Stray Dogs. With its blend of horror, comedy, and heartwarming moments, this comic will appeal to fans of all genres. Tony Fleecs’ masterful storytelling combined with Trish Forstner’s beautiful artwork make this series a standout title in 2024.
Feral #1 hit local comic shops on March 27, 2024 from Image Comics.
