The longest running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series in history is getting a new interior artist with Gavin Smith as he takes the reins with IDW Publishing’s TMNT #140 in June.
Smith will take over for Fero Pe who has had the duties for the past few issues. Pablo Tunica, Jodie Nishijima, and Nelson Daniel have shared the duties over the past 40 issues while teamed up with Sophie Campbell. In addition, Campbell has contributed artwork to their own story on a few issues.
Smith is a freelance artist who lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. His most recent work includes Star Trek: The Mirror War for IDW Publishing, Heartpiercer for Dark Horse Comics, and various IDW Publishing TMNT covers. Recently he has contributed a number of variant covers for the TMNT: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years miniseries.
Smith’s past work includes Dead Legends (A Wave Blue World), Ghost in the Shell (Penguin/Random House/Kodansha), Heavy Metal Magazine, The Accelerators (Blue Juice Comics), “Have You Any Fear” For Line Webtoon, Gregory Graves (Starburns Industries), Motion Comics for AT&T, The anthologies “ALL WE EVER WANTED” (A Wave Blue World) illustrating a story with Dead Legends collaborator James Maddox, and The Good Fight illustrating a story by Mark Waid.
Gavin has also done background art for various comic books and has had pin-ups in Strayed (Dark Horse Comics) and Deadly Class (Image Comics), and a cover for Vampblade (Action Lab Entertainment). He got his start after graduating from the Joe Kubert School in 2011 and self publishing an issue of a creator owned comic “Human City”.
Issue 140 of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits local comic shops on June 14, 2023. The series continues their amazing run with Sophie Campbell penning the comic.
