The hit 2021 comic book series Geiger will be adapted into a television series by Justin Simien and Geoff Johns for Paramount Television Studios.
Geiger, written by Johns with artwork from Gary Frank (Midnight Nation, Supreme Power), was first released in April 2021 and lasted six issues. Johns’s work on the DC Comics characters Green Lantern, Aquaman, Flash and Superman, has drawn critical acclaim over the years.
Who are the scavengers of a dying earth? Geiger is set in the years since a nuclear war ravaged the planet, desperate outlaws battle for survival in a world of radioactive chaos. Out past the poisoned wasteland lives a man even the Nightcrawlers and Organ People fear. Some name him Joe Glow, others call him The Meltdown Man. But his name…is Geiger
Co-creator Johns will write the show’s pilot and serve as showrunner / executive produce alongside Jamie Iracleanos for Mad Ghost, and Frank. Kyle Lauren and Simien will serve as executive producers as well.
Simien’s first feature film, Dear White People, won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The film was later adapted into the Netflix series of the same name. He is serving as director on the Disney reboot of Haunted Mansion coming August 11, 2023.
Johns and Frank have continued to work on the success of Geiger by releasing a spin-off series called Junkyard Joe which hit local comic book shelves in October.
