Who you gonna call? The paranormal fighting team is back to help bridge the gap between Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire with Dark Horse’s Ghostbusters: Back in Town.
Written by David M. Booher with artwork by Blue Delliquanti, Back in Town takes us to New York City following the events of Afterlife and prior to the most recent film, Frozen Empire, offering us a thrilling new adventure with some of our favorite ghost-busting heroes.
The writing is top-notch. Booher crafts an engaging story that does a wonderful job blending humor, action and heart into one cohesive story that has the vibe and feel of the movies while bringing their own spin on the tale. David captures each character’s voice s as well as the City of New York that brings the story to life with each page turn.
While the story itself shines, the incredible artwork from Delliquanti perfectly captures the spirit of New York City and the Ghostbusters, giving each character their own unique personality. Add the colors by Mildred Louis and Cris Peter, which are bright and vibrant, and we get panels of artwork that pops off each page. The comic screams Saturday morning cartoons in such a great way.
Something that sets Ghostbusters: Back in Town apart from other comics in the world of Ghostbusters is how well it captures the essence of what makes the franchise so beloved. It has all of the classic elements but also manages to feel fresh and new. It’s clear that the creative team has a deep respect for the source material and is committed to delivering an authentic experience.
Without giving too much away, there’s also a new paranormal force at play that proves to be a formidable foe for our heroes. The stakes are high, and there are plenty of action-packed sequences throughout the series.
Back in Town is an excellent addition to the franchise and great for any fan. The creative team has done an outstanding job of capturing what makes Ghostbusters so special while also delivering something fresh and exciting. The artwork is fantastic, the writing is top-notch, and it sets us up as you begin to watch Frozen Empire.
The collected edition of Ghostbusters: Back in Town hits shelves on November 6, 2024 from Dark Horse Comics.
