Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 landed in theaters over the weekend and landed it did. The final movie in the James Gunn Guardians trilogy had us laughing, crying and everything in between.
Our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot’s voice, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon’s voice, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog’s voice, and Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord.
The film is the 2nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s fifth phase and 32nd MCU film in total. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by James Gunn as he did with Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This final chapter also seems to be the final chapter for Gunn at Marvel Studios as he is now an executive at DC Studios.
While the success of Guardians of the Galaxy lead to a sequel in 2017, but it was never a forgone conclusion we would end up getting a third film. Now, after six years James Gunn got his chance and he gave us everything we could ask for to cap off this crazy team’s journey.
In the first film of the trilogy, we got to know know or rag-tag team of guardians with mainly comedy. In the sequel we got comedy, redemption and a good amount emotion. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the creative team gave us family, comedy and a TON of emotion. The feelings we walked out of the theaters with were similar to those when we lost Tony Stark, not as emotional…but definitely feelings we weren’t expecting.
Over the years we have grown with this group of characters. We have seen them grow closer, add members and see them deal with loss. When the team in this film make decisions that could effect the future of the Guardians, it tugs on heartstrings you wouldn’t even imagine.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was one of the best looking movie of the past 32 films in the MCU. The cinematography and visuals were stunning. Some of the shots are angles we have not yet seen in the any Guardians films or even anywhere else in the MCU. This is a vast improvement over the last entry into the universe with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
We have received amazing trilogies of superhero/comic book movies over the years, but this Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has found itself towards the top of this list, if not at the top.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the finale we all deserved and proves that DC Studios is getting a hell of a movie maker and storyteller in James Gunn. Gives you DC fans hope for the future of the DC Universe.
