The hugely successful comic Hack/Slash is coming back to crowdfunding, but this time in a different medium. Zoop, the full service crowdfunding platform, has struck a licensing deal with Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley to turn the long running comic property into a deck building card game. The release celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the title, and marks Zoop’s first foray into licensing, with plans for more “comics to games” projects in the coming months.
With the ever-changing landscape of the comics industry, Zoop is creating alternative revenue streams for comic creators. A natural shift into the gaming category is a logical leap, especially with high profile long running titles such as Hack/Slash. Zoop has plans for more games in the future based off of beloved comic book properties that are currently under-utilized in the gaming space.
Zoop Co-Founder & CEO, Jordan Plosky states “as a full service crowdfunding platform, we realized we already have the infrastructure in place to handle this type of project. With our built in team of game designers, manufacturers, and fulfillment partners in addition to our proprietary crowdfunding platform, we’re uniquely positioned to expand in this direction. We love Tim, we love Hack/Slash, and we love games. It’s a perfect match for our first endeavor into the gaming space, and we’re so excited to bring our brand of “narrative deck building card games” to comics and gaming fans!”
The pre-launch page has just gone up for fans to sign up for launch alerts, early bird specials, and first access to limited rewards. More information will be released leading up to the campaign launch, with first looks for those who sign up.
About Hack/Slash
Hack/Slash is a long running independent comic book, celebrating its 20th year in publication. First published by Devil’s Due, the title then moved to it’s current home, Image Comics. Hack/Slash was created by Tim Seeley & Stefano Caselli and is an evergreen title in the horror genre for comics.
The main characters, Cassie and Vlad have had crossovers with characters from Army of Darkness, Child’s Play, The Crow, Vampirella, and more. This is the first time Hack/Slash is being adapted as a game, to the creators’ delight.
