Review Overview

The 1990s were such an amazing time for animated television programs and this includes the likes of King Arthur and The Knights of Justice. Now, writer Joe Corallo and artist Gaia Cardinalli bring their own take on the 90s animated show with a graphic novel adaptation with a modern twist.

Join high school quarterback Arthur King and his team as they are transported to Camelot, where they must take up the mantle of the Knights of the Round Table to save the true King Arthur from Merlin’s evil protege, Morgana. This modern twist on an age-old tale for readers of all ages.

Joe Corallo’s storytelling in this original graphic novel is top-notch. He seamlessly weaves together elements of fantasy, adventure, and coming-of-age themes to create a compelling narrative that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. The artwork by Gaia Cardinalli perfectly complements Corallo’s story and gives us the original animate series vibes. The illustrations are vibrant and fun, bringing Camelot and its inhabitants to life in just the right way.

A standout feature of this adaptation is its ability to appeal to both longtime fans of the 1990s King Arthur series and newcomers alike. While paying homage to the original animated series that inspired it, Corallo and Cardinalli also bring a fresh perspective to the story that makes it feel modern and relevant. This balance between nostalgia and innovation sets this adaptation apart from other retellings of the classic tale.

While it is intended for a younger audience, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice offers something for everyone. Whether you’re drawn in by the storyline or the artwork, there’s no denying the universal appeal of this book. Joe Corallo and Gaia Cardinalli have crafted a truly fun graphic novel with King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. From its modern take on the storyline to its beautiful artwork, this adaptation breathes new life into an old favorite while staying true to its roots.

The King Arthur and the Knights of Justice graphic novel hits bookstores everywhere on April 23, 2024 and local comic shops a day later on April 24 from the Maverick imprint at Mad Cave Studios.
