Kraven the Hunter, the next action-packed standalone story of how one of Marvel‘s most iconic villains came to be hits theaters on December 12, 2024 as part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Kraven’s complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff, starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.
The Kraven the Hunter movie is based on the comic book character with the same name created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Directed by J.C. Chandor from a screenplay by Richard Wenk and the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Kraven was produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment and is the sixth film in the SSU.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role, alongside Ariana DeBose as Calypso Ezili, Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Aleksei Sytsevich / Rhino, Christopher Abbott as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff.
With a budget of $130 million, the film’s opening weekend is estimated to be in the $20-25 million range–in perspective Sony’s Morbius and Madame Web brought in $39 million and $15 million domestically respectively on each film’s opening weekend.
Kraven the Hunter is going to finally makes it’s big screen debut after initially set to release on January 13, 2023, October 6, 2023, and August 30, 2024. Now, Kraven the Hunter hits theaters on December 12.
