Review Overview

We all felt the heart-wrenching sadness at Michelangelo’s final days in TMNT: The Last Ronin, but now we get to follow him on his journey from New York City to Japan and beyond. The Last Ronin – The Lost Years miniseries will take us across time and explore those unknown years before he returned home to administer justice against those responsible for killing his family, while introducing us to some new additions to turtle-lore.

Written by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman with Tom Waltz, illustrated by fellow Ben Bishop (The Aggregate, Drawing Blood) and S.L. Gallant (G.I. Joe) and colors by Luis Antonio Delgado (TMNT, Ghostbusters), TMNT: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years #1 hit shelves at your local comic shop on January 25, 2023.

THE LOST YEARS THE LAST RONINIn the smash-hit miniseries TMNT: The Last Ronin, readers witnessed the final gut-wrenching days of the Heroes in a Half Shell. For Michelangelo in particular, the march to his heartbreaking last battle was long and dangerous, taking him from New York City, to Japan, across Asia and Europe, and then back home again to administer final justice against those guilty of killing his family. But what happened during those fateful years when he had only the need for vengeance and Master Splinter’s journal to guide him? What battles did he fight? What hard lessons did he learn?

The time has come to find out as original miniseries writers Eastman and Waltz join artist Bishop to reveal what adventures the Last Ronin experienced during his vengeful journey. While in the present, a new master, Casey Marie Jones, prepares her young terrapin students to be the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

In this first issue, we are taken on a creative, refreshing journey with Michelangelo as he follows Master Splinter’s journal and travels across Europe and Asia. Along his travels, he encounters various challenges and battles, but also learns invaluable lessons in the process. We get to see a side of Michelangelo that we have never seen before – one who is determined and focused on his mission.

The artwork by Bishop and Gallant is stunningly detailed, vibrant, and dynamic; it helps bring out the emotion of every scene in breathtaking detail! Additionally, colorist Delgado does an amazing job of adding depth to each page through his use of vivid colors that bring life to the pages.

The writing by TMNT co-creator Eastman and Waltz captures the spirit of these an iconic character perfectly while introducing the world to four new turtles: Moja, Odyn, Uno, and Yi. The plot is full of surprises as readers uncover more about Michelangelo’s past while also witnessing how he changes over time due to his experiences throughout his journey. It’s truly an emotional adventure you won’t want to miss!

Overall, TMNT fans are sure to love this comic book! It has everything – compelling storylines full of suspenseful action sequences combined with emotionally-charged moments set against vivid artwork for an experience unlike any other.

Be sure to grab your copy of TMNT: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years #1 at your local shop! The second issue is expected to drop March 15.
