In Amy Tintera‘s novel, Listen for the Lie, we are taken on a thrilling journey into the mystery surrounding Lucy and Savvy’s friendship and the murder that changed everything. With elements of true crime podcasts woven into the storyline, this book kept us hooked as they try to uncover the truth behind what really happened that fateful night.
Lucy’s character is complex and intriguing, making it easy for us to become invested in her story. As she grapples with her memories (or lack thereof) of the night of Savvy’s murder, we are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and a splash of sarcasm…well a lot of sarcasm. Tintera does an excellent job of building suspense and keeping us guessing until the very end.
The podcast aspect of some novels falls flat, but in this book the incorporation of the true crime podcast adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story. It provides a unique perspective on the investigation into Savvy’s murder and offers insights into how society consumes true crime stories. We listened to this novel on audiobook beautifully narrated by January LaVoy and Will Damron, which just added to the podcast portion of the book. This element adds depth to the narrative and kept me engaged throughout.
Tintera’s writing style is captivating, drawing readers in from the first page and holding their attention until the final reveal. We couldn’t put the book down. The pacing of the story is well-executed, with just the right amount of twists and turns. We find that in most thriller novels as of late we can spot the big reveal earlier in the book, but with Listen for the Lie we were definitely surprised.
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera is great for fans of thriller novels and even more perfect for those who can’t get enough of true crime podcasts. Tintera has crafted a riveting tale that features a compelling storyline and super fun characters. We thoroughly enjoyed this one and will keep Amy Tintera on the list of authors to keep an eye on!
