Review Overview

Writer Jordan Thomas (The Man from Maybe) and artist Chris Matthews have teamed up to create a gripping comic book that delves into the dark underworld of crime, betrayal, and revenge. With a unique use of colors and art with an intriguing storyline, Mugshots is sure to captivate readers who enjoy a good mystery with a twist.

The story begins with the kidnapping of a young woman, setting off a series of events that will bring together con artists, gangsters, killers, and corrupt police. As the plot unfolds, readers are taken on a thrilling journey through family trauma, betrayal, murder, and ultimately, revenge. The intricate web of interconnected characters adds depth to the narrative and keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

One of the standout features of Mugshots is the use of three colors per page in the illustrations. This unique approach not only adds visual interest but also helps differentiate between different storylines within the comic book. The combination of blue, white, and black (with some pages swapping blue for orange) creates a visually striking aesthetic that enhances the overall reading experience.

While the comic will not be for everyone, this new Mad Cave Studios series definitely sets itself apart from others on the publishers docket. Mugshots is a dark and gritty tale filled with complex characters and unexpected twists. Jordan Thomas’s compelling storytelling combined with Chris Matthews’ stunning artwork make this series standout on the shelf.

Mugshots #1 hits local comic shops on May 8, 2024 from Mad Cave Studios.
