Mark Millar has once again captivated us with his signature storytelling style in Prodigy: Slaves of Mars, this time he is joined by the talented illustrator Stefano Landini for a new mysterious and action-packed story.
Someone murdered Edison Crane’s father when he stumbled across the world’s greatest secret, and now they’re taking Edison’s entire life apart too. What was his father’s role in NASA’s secret space program and what does it mean for all mankind?
While I am no stranger to the writings of Mark Millar, a standout of this Prodigy installment was the stunning artwork from Stefano Landini. The illustrator brings Millar’s story to life with great lines and detailed panels to perfectly complement the story. With a story chalked full of action, Landini does a fantastic job integrating intense visualizations to these action sequences adding motion to a still image. This enhances the overall reading experience.
Prodigy: Slaves of Mars is filled with mystery and suspense, keeping me guessing at each page turn. The first issue lays a great foundation for Edison Crane’s search to uncover his father’s death and NASA’s secret space program, taking us on a thrilling ride along the way. Millar has once again masterfully built tension throughout the debut issue, leading to a first issue ending with more questions than answers in such a great way
While Prodigy: Slaves of Mars takes place in the universe of other Prodigy comics by Millar, this series could easily stand on its own as a gripping tale that should appeal to both longtime fans and new readers alike. As someone with only basic knowledge of the other Prodigy stories, I was easily immersed into the world created by Millar along with Landini. So fear not, this comic is a good jumping on point.
Prodigy: Slaves of Mars #1 is just more proof of Mark Millar’s ability to tell gripping stories. Millar, along with Stefano Landini have crafted a truly captivating story that had me guessing along the way. I am now hooked into this series with its intricate plot twists, stunning artwork, and compelling characters. I cannot wait to see where this comic is taken in future issues.
